We are having fun with our Spriggs 7 foot tri-looms! Always more fun to weave together! We are trying a new to us technique of cut strand weaving. The continuous strand is easy and fun, but we wanted to use lots of different handspun yarns and some novelty yarns so we decided to try this method. A fun way to use up bits and bobs of fun yarns! Stay tuned for our finished shawls!

One of the hand dyed braids left over from the Smoky Mountain Fiber Fair is on the little Victoria wheel. Sometimes when one of your favorite braids doesn’t sell you do the happy dance because you know you get to spin it!!

The beauty of kettle dying is that (at least for me) you never know what magic is in the water until you rinse the fiber! This big beautiful pot was stuffed with merino roving, border leicester curls and picked fiber. Only 3 colors were used…yellow, teal and fushia. I always get so happy with all the other colors that magically appear. Carrie and I have been having fun getting ready for the at the on April 25th and 26th!

Not only are rolags fun to spin, but they are fun to make! These are great for long draw spinning or even spindle spinning. I had a little help from Luna who has decided the bowl is her new favorite spot to sleep! Our Two Girls Textiles booth at Smoky Mountain Fiber Fair will have rolags for sale, along with other great fiber for spinning and felting. Classes are now on the website for registration!

Finally back at the loom weaving some dish towels. I love the pretty spring colors of the yarns on this cold winter day. A lot goes into a woven piece…like me wrestling with a twisted mess of a warp while trying to wind on!! I persevered, then promptly just cut off the twisted part! Getting excited about the in April! Carrie and I will be dying, carding batts, spinning, weaving and planning what goodies we will have in our booth! Classes will be posted later this week and there are some really great opportunities to learn something new! Registration will be !

Weave Vital will be participating in the Downtown Maryville Holiday Market tomorrow (11/30) inside the White Star Station (133 W. Broadway) on the lower level of this beautiful, historic building. This event is jammed packed with exceptional offerings and concludes with the annual tree lighting ceremony. What’s not to love! This time of year I always feel compelled to weave something special. I like to bring out the fine gauge yarns which adds complexity but produces a lovely garment quality drape and feel. Here’s one of the 40 thread per inch scarves in progress. Can you tell how tight the slots are on the silver reed? Most handwoven finished goods being more in the range of 20-24 threads per inch. You’ll have to stop by Booth 39 to see the finished results and colors. Enjoy this wonderful holiday weekend!
