We have officially wrapped up the inaugural Fresh Coast Fiber Festival, and honestly, we could not be happier with how incredible the weekend turned out! 🧶✨

As a local business, having a fiber festival right here in Traverse City made this event especially meaningful to us. One of the greatest joys was reconnecting with so many familiar faces from our Knitology days and feeling the genuine kindness, support, and sincerity from customers who meant so much to us over the years. Those moments created memories we will carry with us for a very long time.

This event could not have been such a success without the tireless dedication and vision of Jamie from M1 Fibers. Jamie worked incredibly hard to create an amazing experience not only for attendees, but also for every vendor who participated. The organization, atmosphere, and sense of community throughout the weekend were truly something special.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, supported local hand-dyed yarn, shared stories, laughed with us, and made this weekend unforgettable. We already miss seeing all of you, and we are so excited to do it all again next year at the next Fresh Coast Fiber Festival!

We’re officially heading out to set up Booth #19 for the Fresh Coast Fiber Festival! 🧶✨

We truly hope to see you there this weekend and cannot wait to share all of our new colorways, favorites, and surprises with everyone attending!

But if you can’t make it to the festival, we also have some very exciting news… 👀

Reaction Yarn has been invited to host a monthly pop-up shop at a major retailer starting next month! That means you’ll soon be able to shop our Traverse City-made hand-dyed yarn locally — without needing to attend a fiber festival.

Even better, our local customers will be able to place orders online and pick them up at the pop-up, helping avoid shipping costs altogether! 💜

We’ll be sharing all the details, including dates, times, and location information sometime next week — so stay tuned!

Today we’re introducing Breakwater. 🌊🧶

Sometimes there’s nothing better than a beautifully hand-dyed solid colorway. While commercial solids can often feel flat, Breakwater has incredible depth and richness that only hand dyeing can create.

Inspired by the coast and perfectly suited for the Fresh Coast Fiber Festival this weekend, this colorway captures those deep shoreline blues and calming lakefront vibes that feel right at home here in Traverse City.

Breakwater is currently available in both Fi*****ng and DK weights — and like all Reaction Yarn colorways, it can be custom dyed on nearly any yarn base you’re looking for. If we don’t have your preferred weight in stock, we’ll happily dye it just for you! ✨

Let’s be honest… mini skeins themselves are nothing new. BUT our Reaction Yarn Test Tubes? Those are uniquely us. 🧪🧶✨

Our mini skeins are packaged in signature test tubes to bring a little extra fun and personality to the Reaction Yarn experience — and every tube is filled with colorful surprises.

One of our favorite things about creating these minis is that many of them are made from leftover dye combinations used during our full skein dye sessions. Instead of letting beautiful color go to waste, we experiment, mix, and play with it — creating one-of-a-kind minis you may never see again exactly the same way.

Of course, we can/will dye minis to match any of our full colorways, but there’s something especially fun about the unexpected combinations and happy accidents that happen in these test tubes. 💜🌈

We’re also considering launching a monthly “Mini of the Month” subscription where you’d receive a surprise test tube mini every month! We’re still in the planning stages, so we would absolutely love your input.

Another customer favorite… inspired by the customer, friend, and familiar face who probably spent more time at Knitology than anyone besides Randy and me. 💜🧶

Anyone who knew Dottie knew she truly was a delight. She brought sunshine, laughter, kindness, and just the right amount of sass everywhere she went. Her heart was enormous, and over time, she became much more than a customer — she became family.

We never really got the chance to say goodbye, which makes this colorway even more meaningful to us.

We worked closely with her son to create something that felt uniquely Dottie, using all of her favorite colors, and after the final skeins were dyed, we received the official thumbs up for what became Delightfully Dottie. ✨

Every time this colorway is dyed, it brings back memories, stories, and smiles. It’s one of those yarns that carries more than color — it carries love.

Now… while we apparently have a habit of creating colorways inspired by some of our favorite people after they’ve passed, let this be your gentle reminder that your life goal should not be “just dying to get a yarn colorway named after you.” 😅💜

Being lucky enough to live and hand dye our yarn right here in Traverse City makes this event feel even more special to us. This colorway may be a customer favorite, but more importantly, it was inspired by one of our favorite customers — who became a dear friend. 🤍🧶

Simply Gloria’s was created especially for Gloria and her love of rich southwestern-inspired colors. We wanted to design something that truly felt like her — warm, vibrant, beautiful, and unforgettable.

We were fortunate enough to bring her a few skeins while she was in hospice care, and seeing her emotional reaction to the yarn is a moment we will never forget. A couple of weeks later, we lost her, but her spirit continues to live on in our hearts, our memories, and now in this colorway.

Simply Gloria’s will be available at the Fresh Coast Fiber Festival and online following the festival. If you love bold southwestern tones and beautifully expressive color combinations, this one may become a favorite for you too.

Because of the unique dye style used for this colorway, every skein develops its own personality — making each handmade project truly one of a kind. ✨
