The Story Behind Stitches and Swords:
2020 was a really tough year for me. I was quite stuck in a very familiar, albeit very unhealthy, pattern of living made worse by an ongoing pandemic. Things changes very rapidly and very unexpectedly for me, and I found stability in my monthly Dungeons & Dragons sessions with my friends.
Instead of worrying about what was to come next, I would count down the days until I got to see my friends again, got to roll some dice, and decide what adventure our characters were going on next. Those four other players and our DM saved me from drowning that year, and when Christmas time came around, I wanted to thank them for all they did for me, unknowingly.
Money was tight, so I decided on making my gifts. I learned how to crochet from my grandmother, so I got the idea to crochet dice bags and give them each a new set of dice that reminded me of them. I coordinated the dice bag colors with the set of dice I got them, and attached a charm that made me think of them. When I got done, I had extra supplies, and I had enjoyed the process of creating something special so much, and so, Stitches & Swords was born.
I hope to share the same joy with others that I got to see on my friends' faces when they opened my gifts, and the same joy I get when I saw them carrying my dice bags to each session we had after.
