Best Lights Brightens Grand Valley State University’s Indoor Campus Recreation Spaces

A recent upgrade at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) focused on lighting in their indoor practice facility. By partnering with Best Lights, GVSU is providing students with better visibility and a brighter, more inviting environment, particularly benefiting student-athletes. The change provides twice the light with over 50% savings on energy.

Below, Rence Meredith, the associate vice president of Facilities Services at GVSU, details the decision to work with Best Lights and the benefits seen since.

Why did you decide to partner with Best Lights?
I met Gary Yurich, the owner and president of Best Lights, at an industry tradeshow and his passion for and knowledge of lighting stood out. After the show, we connected to discuss opportunities on campus. We landed on our indoor practice facility and it has been nothing but a positive experience.

How does working with Best Lights benefit your students?
All students and users — especially our student-athletes — will benefit from increased light and visibility.

What else can you tell other campus rec professionals about the benefits of working with Best Lights?
From my first introduction to Gary to the final rebate form, Best Lights have been great to work with. The rebate we received for the energy savings upgrade paid for almost half of the cost of the project. I highly recommend working with Best Lights for all your field and athletic venue needs.

Our 552 Watt Indirect DISC LED replaced 1000 Watt HIDs with half the power and twice the light at Grand Valley State University. The University Field House director loves the new lights a huge improvement to this beautiful facility. The electricians were very impressed with how easy the project went installing up to 18 fixtures a day.

We just finished installing our New Indirect DISC LED at Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas Texas. We originally installed 1000 watt HID lights and ceiling in 1997. They had us come back, redo the ceiling and install our new DISC LED. They went from 40-50 Foot Candles on the courts to 90-105 Foot-Candles. Half the electricity and twice the light. Their members are in LOVE with the new lights and the ball really pops now. Thank you Craig Bell for allowing us to be of service again and for all your positive comments.
