The Mimbreño pattern has one of the most documented origin stories in American dinnerware. In the 1930s, the Fred Harvey Company commissioned designer Mary Colter to create a pattern for the dining cars of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway’s Super Chief — the celebrated passenger train that connected Chicago to Los Angeles.
Colter drew inspiration from the pottery of the ancient Mimbres people of the Southwest, translating bold geometric, figurative, and nature-based designs into ceramic dinnerware. The result was a pattern that brought centuries of artistic tradition into the golden age of American rail dining.
Today, HF Coors is the authorized manufacturer of Mimbreño, producing it in Tucson, Arizona, with vitrified ceramic construction and restaurant-grade durability.
The collection is available in multiple colorways, including original black-and-white, maroon-and-white, and more — in full sets and open-stock individual pieces.
