Glass Pearl Factory - Post 3 of 3.

Richard here. Rebecca had to escape to the parking lot because the fumes from the paint room were giving her a headache.

We're at the Pearlex factory this morning. The beads start as bulk round beads in white, black, or clear glass. Next the beads are strung onto the dying line.

After they're strung, they're separated and glued in place.

Next step is dipping. That's what's happening in the video in this post. They get four coats of color and then one finishing coat. They are allowed to dry in between each coat.

The final step is they are removed from the dying line and packaged for sale.

Tuesday, October 13th

We’re on the move today from Prague to Jablonec nad Nisou, the Crystal Valley of Czechia.

On the way we stopped for a tour of the extravagant Sychrov Palace. And then had a delicious Czech lunch. At first I was having b**r with all my meals, but I’m getting too old to keep that up all week so now I have discovered the joy of Czech lemonade. It’s a light, refreshing sparkling beverage that’s not too sweet. So far I’ve tried mint lemonade (like a virgin mojito), grapefruit lemonade, and mango lemonade. In German I think you’d describe it as a Schorle.

Now that we’re out in the countryside I’m falling back on German since my Czech is extremely limited and fairly useless. Basically I can tell someone in Czech that I don’t understand Czech and that’s as far as I can go. Better hurry up and start Pimsleur Czech Lesson 3.

We all checked into the hotel and got situated and then Sabrina taught her beginning bead mosaic class.

After dinner Richard and I played Pocket Wingspan and ate ice cream sundaes. My kind of night!

Monday, October 12th

After finishing at Prague Castle we went out for lunch and had some classic Czech cuisine: chicken & mushroom soup, duck pâté with cranberry sauce & rye bread, and beef goulash with dumplings. Washed down with Pilsner Urquell, of course!

Then we continued our walking tour through Malá Strana or Lesser Town. Stopped in a traditional marionette shop and the Church of our Lady Victorious and the Infant Jesus of Prague.

Past the John Lennon wall and crossed the famous Charles Bridge back to old town.

What a day! We needed a nice long nap after all that.
