A couple months ago I had painted this for a close, longtime friend. It was specifically intended to go above his kitchen sink. I texted this picture. He was ecstatic that I had started painting again. And one of the first things I did was just for him. It was as weird and vibrant as he was.

Only I'm flaky AF sometimes. I kept forgetting it every time I came over. I had finally just put it in the car (to NOT forget) a couple days before he went to the hospital. It stayed there every time I visited. A strange hope that I could dash back out to grab it for him to brighten at least his bedside. But no. Visiting him today was final.

He took me to my first pride festival. Lent me his couch on several occasions. Nursed a hangover or two back in the day. Taught me many fancy ways to make coffee. Talked me through many lessons that he'd learned the hard way. The man that after a couple decades, I'd essentially claimed as an unofficial brother. Who had a hand in mending a few broken hearts and formatively shaped the way I can turn most trauma into comedy, will be taken off life support tomorrow.

Tldr, feelings are rough. Grief is tough. Here's a painting. Hope you like it, because he loved it.
