This home’s minimal architecture gave us the opportunity to take the interiors in a different direction, bringing in bolder color, pattern, and unexpected details while softening the overall feel of the spaces.

Our client wanted a home that would unfold as you move through it, with moments of surprise and personality. It was equally important that the home feel comfortable and welcoming, whether entertaining adults or hosting a house full of kids on a Friday night.

The basement kitchen was transformed from a largely avoided space into one of the family’s favorites in this gorgeous home. A few smart changes to the layout corrected proportion issues, improved the flow, and made the entire space feel so much bigger. Behind all that beauty, it’s also a powerhouse. Refrigerator drawers, an ice maker, and other appliances give it everything it needs for entertaining without allowing large appliances to dominate the room. Instead, the eye goes to the things we wanted to celebrate: stunning brass shelving, a highly detailed marble island, and the hand-painted grasscloth wallcovering. Now, it’s the perfect space to linger.

One of my favorite parts of our work is being involved early enough to help shape a home from the ground up. With this lake house, we were able to cultivate their ideal lifestyle from the very beginning stages.

Our goal is always to make the process enjoyable and stress-free for our clients, so hearing this is so rewarding. And even better to know that they now have a home they absolutely love.

Someone recently asked me whether I think there are rules in design. My answer: I don’t really believe in design rules. In fact, try to convince me there’s only one right way to do something, and I’m immediately tempted to prove you wrong. There’s a spectrum of choices, and our job is to find what feels exactly right for this particular client, in this particular home, at this particular moment. Great design is anything but formulaic.

The rug is one of the earliest selections we make, often chosen alongside key art pieces and major furnishings. Sometimes a special rug is the piece that launches an entire palette; other times, its job is to play a cozy supporting role. Either way, a great rug is a key factor in whether a room feels warm, welcoming, and complete, or somehow just a bit off, even if you can’t quite put your finger on why.

I’ve wanted to host one of The Cook’s Bookmark’s private dinners for years, so when one came up for auction at the Glow Gala benefiting Global Gardens, I didn’t hesitate. Even better, it gave me an excuse to gather some of my favorite women around my table.

The food was truly unlike anything else, down to butter hand-sculpted into tiny swans. And of course, when Tracy asked me for a color palette, I couldn’t resist putting together an inspiration board for the evening (I’m a designer, I can’t help it!), then gave her total creative freedom from there. Seeing her bring it all to life, including the gorgeous florals by Chartreuse, was so much fun.

One of my favorite things about Tulsa is how much incredible talent we have right here in our community. I love getting to celebrate the people doing such creative work in our city, especially when it also means supporting an organization like Global Gardens.

Thank you to The Cook’s Bookmark for such a memorable evening, and to Global Gardens for giving me another reason to gather some of my favorite people around a beautiful table.

A home should have continuity throughout without limiting the creativity of each individual space. I love creating a unique design “language” for every project, then thinking of the different rooms as speaking their own dialects. For this home, the language was informed by its setting on a beautiful Oklahoma lake, along with the elegance and hospitality of our lovely clients.

One of the things that made this project especially unique was that the husband wanted to be completely surprised at installation. He stayed out of the design process and meetings, and even out of the home during construction. That level of trust is not something we take lightly, and it made an already exciting reveal even more thrilling for all of us. We were given tremendous freedom throughout the project, which led to some of our favorite moments, including a bold, navy-drenched card room designed for game nights.

Because this is a family that loves to gather, we prioritized open living spaces and a strong connection between indoors and out.
