There is so much that happens before the pretty part.
Design school teaches you the fundamentals, but working on real projects teaches you just how many moving parts there are between an idea and a finished room. A remodel might begin with a rough floor plan and a conversation about how a family actually lives. Then come space planning, cabinetry, materials, furnishings, drawings, revisions, builder questions, site visits and dozens of small decisions that all have to work together. The more projects I work on, the more I appreciate that good interior design isn’t only about choosing beautiful things. It’s also about thinking ahead, documenting decisions clearly and making sure the design can actually be executed in the field. This is a little behind-the-scenes look at what full-service interior design can involve on a remodel or new build — from the first plans to the finished home.
Based in Greenville, South Carolina, I work on residential interiors throughout the Upstate, including remodels, new builds and complete-room projects.
