Custom Design.
4. It’s "Consultative" Labor
Custom fabrication isn't a transactional purchase; it's a service. You have to extract the vision out of someone else's head, translate it into physical reality, and often gently guide them away from ideas that violate the laws of physics or mechanics. The communication, revisions, and expectation management are a massive part of the workload.
In short: You aren't just paying for the material or the hours spent cutting, welding, or turning a wrench. You are paying for the years of trial-and-error it took to acquire the skill, the specialized tools required to execute it, and the mental bandwidth required to solve a problem that has never been solved in quite that exact way before.
