HOTEL POD

At only 140 sq ft, the rooms at in the Back Bay of Boston were a futuristic trip, and a study in thoughtful design in very small spaces.

A King-sized bed sits up against the large single pane window, my room overlooked the Back Bay, the Charles River, MIT and Cambridge beyond.

Designed by every detail has been engineered for efficiency. My hard case carry-on fit perfectly wide open in the drawer under the bed. The vanity was executed complete in Corian, giving the dated material modern panache.

The lighting and light control is both practical and dramatic.

Best occupied by one person the rooms are teeny but memorable.

RISD Museum

Many people know of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) , however many fewer know of the RISD Museum.

I like to tell people the school and the museum were created in the same breath 149 years ago. Over time they have both evolved and grown and changed.

I studied Architecture and Fine Arts at RISD and had a long relationship with both aspects of the institution, but my focus has been more on the RISD Museum.

My first gift to the museum was in the Spring of 1984 - an architect’s rendering of a Valle’s Steak House in Warwick, RI.

Over the many years since I periodically
offer gifts of art or design to the museum; more recently the gifts are offered by me AND my daughter Siena Harris-Gissler.

A couple of weeks ago at a meeting of the Fine Arts Committee, seven works on paper were formally accepted into the collection.

TEXTURAL RICH & MODERN

The enormous living room in the triplex Penthouse at 520 West 28th - aka the Zaha Hadid Building - has floor-to-ceiling windows all around, very tall ceilings and an open plan.

Our approach in furnishing this room was to use upholstery with clean-lines, a rich palette and textural surfaces to create a calm sophisticated environment.

MOMENTS of DELIGHT

Every design project involves making hundreds if not thousands of decisions - large medium, small and very small. Our intention is that they all add up to a result they is greater than the sum of those small decisions to create an enduring whole.

The layout and interior architecture of this 1904 house designed by Erick Rossiter are quite good, requiring very few adjustments, however given the overall scale of this three story house we wanted to create a seemingly effortless transition from room-to-room, beauty without pretension, and a joyful family house.

WELCOME!

Architect Erick Rossiter designed this home in 1904, with an expansive and dynamic Foyer.

We selected lighting, furnishings and decor to bring new life to this grand old home. The previous owners had gone with crystal chandeliers and sconces everywhere, Persian rugs and heavy traditional furniture and window treatments.
We developed a simpler, lighter, fresher color palette to better suit delightful young and extremely active family of six, plus a fog and Maine C**n cat who rules the house!
Imagine a foyer large enough for an antique Steinway C grand piano, room to ‘race around’ or set up another table for enormo dinner parties!

GRAND FAMILY HOUSE

Thank you CTC&G for featuring our project in Litchfield, Connecticut!

Designed by architect Erick Rossiter in 1904, the 8 bedroom house sits proudly on a major street with other spectacular 18th and 19th century homes.

The family of six relocated from NYC to Litchfield County during COVID and decided to stay.

The opportunity to bring new life and a fresh point of view to a grand home was a delight.

Thank you to Editor Dj Carey for your support, and a big welcome to incoming Editor Catriona Branca! And to my friend and publisher Marianne Howatson
