PROJECT COMPLETE | Fireplace Transformation

Sometimes the best designs begin with an unexpected challenge.

What started as a cracked porcelain fireplace became the opportunity to completely reimagine the heart of this living room.

Instead of replacing everything, we carefully restored the existing structure, applying handcrafted microcement to both the fireplace base and mantel before finishing every surface—including the massive carved wood corbels—with a beautiful lime wash in White Linen.

The goal wasn’t simply to create a white fireplace. It was to create warmth, texture, movement, and timeless character while preserving the architectural beauty of the original design.

To complete the transformation, we refreshed the entire room with a new area rug, carefully selected décor, and layered accessories that bring balance, warmth, and sophistication to the space.

From an unused gathering space to a sophisticated entertainment lounge.

Every design decision in this room was intentional.

▪️ A stunning chevron wood ceiling creates warmth and architectural interest.

▪️ Rich grasscloth wallpaper brings texture and depth while keeping the palette timeless.

▪️ A custom live-edge walnut bar becomes the room’s centerpiece, adding both functionality and natural beauty.

▪️ Matte black millwork and trim frame the space with a bold yet elegant contrast.

▪️ Carefully layered lighting highlights every detail and creates the perfect atmosphere for entertaining.

▪️ Comfortable leather swivel chairs, a sculptural coffee table, and a layered cowhide rug complete the lounge, creating a space that’s equally inviting for conversation, game night, or simply enjoying a quiet drink.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT | PART 1
When Design Meets Problem Solving

Every beautiful transformation begins with a challenge.

This fireplace originally featured large porcelain slabs that, unfortunately, were damaged when one of the panels cracked. Instead of replacing the entire installation, we saw an opportunity to completely reimagine the space.

Our first step was carefully dismantling the fireplace and repairing every crack, seam, and imperfection to create a solid foundation.

From there, we applied a specialized primer designed to ensure maximum adhesion over the existing porcelain. Once cured, we began building the new finish using microcement, custom-tinted with antique white pigments to achieve the warm, organic tone we envisioned.

The texture you see isn’t accidental—it’s handcrafted. Every trowel mark adds depth, movement, and character that simply can’t be replicated by manufactured materials.

This is only the beginning.

Next, the surface will be lightly sanded before receiving a custom lime wash to add even more depth and softness. Finally, everything will be professionally sealed for durability, while the mantel will be refinished with a concrete-inspired finish and the carved corbels will be transformed with lime wash to complete the design.

Sometimes the most beautiful projects begin with an unexpected obstacle.

Some of the most beautiful spaces aren’t the largest—they’re the ones that make you slow down, breathe, and feel at home.

This weekend, I transformed our sunroom into a peaceful retreat inspired by nature.

The walls were finished with a hand-applied lime wash, creating soft movement, depth, and an organic texture that changes beautifully throughout the day as the light moves across the room.

To complete the space, I designed and installed a custom shelving system around the window to showcase our growing plant collection, carefully layering natural materials, greenery, and decorative accents. Hidden within the plants is a small water feature, adding the gentle sound of flowing water and creating an atmosphere that feels calm, warm, and restorative.

At M&B Studio, every project begins with a vision. Whether it’s a complete room transformation or a specialty decorative finish, our goal is always the same—to create spaces that are timeless, personal, and filled with character.

Progress in Motion

This is where the transformation truly begins to come alive.

With the new layout complete, every trade is now bringing the vision to life. What once was simply a concept on paper is becoming a beautifully crafted home, one detail at a time.

Over the past few days we’ve made tremendous progress:

▪️ All walls and ceilings have been freshly painted in Sherwin-Williams Alabaster, creating a bright, timeless foundation throughout the home.

▪️ The new flooring, installed by M&B Studio, has completely transformed the feeling of the main level with warm, continuous flow.

▪️ The staircase is being completely refinished to coordinate with the new floors, featuring Sherwin-Williams Black Magic on the risers, stringers, and railings for a bold, elegant statement.

▪️ Beautiful new pendant lighting and a stunning entry chandelier have been installed, adding warmth and architectural character.

▪️ Custom cabinetry is now taking shape, bringing both beauty and functionality to every space.

A special thank you to REST Cabinetry for their outstanding craftsmanship in assembling and installing the cabinetry and countertops.

Every project is a collaboration, and watching talented professionals bring a shared vision to life is one of our favorite parts of the design process.

The transformation is happening…
