We did not want to remove the old wallpaper from the Swissvale dining room. The horsehair plaster underneath was too fragile to go through that process. So I painted and glazed over it to give it new color and enhance the texture.

I had to repair some tiny areas that were peeling off around the outlets and could see the back.It was like a twill fabric with some type of texture applied.) Just wrapped up this Mt. Lebanon basement and it’s 🔥!
This family wanted the ultimate hangout spot: air hockey battles, ping pong rallies, darts, plus a big cozy section to kick back and watch movies or scream at Steelers games 🏈. Mom’s favorite part? She can shut the door upstairs and pretend the chaos doesn’t exist 😂

I love lighting for its unique artistry and practicality—the fixture itself can be a statement piece, but the light it casts truly makes or breaks a room. It must suit the space's function. For the large TV area, I wanted a softer, more immersive vibe for movie nights and gaming, so I added dimmable wall sconces. They work standalone or layered with the ceiling lights for ultimate versatility.

I wanted the basement to offer as many activities as possible without ever feeling cluttered or turning the floor into an obstacle course. This convertible table was the perfect solution: it serves as a sturdy activity or dining table with benches that slide neatly underneath. It also flips into a full air hockey table and a ping-pong table, and every paddle, puck, and ball stores inside the benches themselves. To keep the floor clear, I mounted darts and a Nerf basketball hoop on the walls—more fun, zero tripping hazards.

The Mt. Lebanon basement felt a bit small, and I knew that with the kids’ ages, the number of friends they’d host, and the high-energy nature of their activities, open floor space would be essential. By reclaiming some dead space inside the walls, I built recessed shelves to store the video games, keeping the room clutter-free and functional.

The new purpose of this room is to serve as a flexible family activity space — a place for games and activities.

Seating was still essential, but adaptability was key. We wanted the furniture to move and reconfigure easily depending on the activity or number of friends. The family had been curious about Lovesac furniture, and it turned out to be the perfect fit.
Each piece can be rearranged into countless configurations, offering endless layout possibilities. Plus, every piece of fabric can be unzipped and tossed right into a standard washing machine — form, function, and family-friendly design all in one.

We chose Sherwin-Williams Techno Gray (SW6170) for the walls of the Mt. Lebanon basement. To brighten things up I painted the old baseboards White Snow (SW9541). There was a good-size gap between the old baseboards and the floor. But I didn't want wood in direct contact with the floor, possibly wicking up occasional moisture from the concrete. So I bridged the gap by building a detail with PVC onto the wood.

We decided to keep the old ceiling structure. We liked the look of it. There were lots of plumbing connections that needed to be accessible. And dropping the ceiling would have made the room feel smaller and shorter. These LED panels were slim, so they didn't lower the ceiling. And they provided uniform brightness throughout the room.

The new flooring made a huge difference. It's nice to not have to look at that black glue residue anymore--and get it on my shoes and clothes. The old radiator is now Sherwin Williams Inkwell SW6992. The gloss finish will help it resist rust in the future. This wasn't a gut job--but there was a lot of drywall work. Lots of cracks from it not being adequately attached to the structure.
