We’re finally finished with our 1970’s kitchen renovation! But as most designers know, when it comes to our own homes, are we ever really done?

This kitchen was almost original and was amazing! Bright orange countertops and funky floral wallpaper. But it was in need of a slightly better layout as the refrigerator placement made for a tight work space at the range (refrigerators were much smaller in the 70’s!).

I knew I wanted to keep in the spirit of the 1970’s with earthy colors and natural wood. We discovered that the original flooring was a black stone-look linoleum so we were definitely on the right track with the dark terrazzo-look porcelain floor tile. I found the perfect matte laminate color from for the upper cabinets and the vintage-look deep green glazed ceramic backsplash tile from looks like it was made for the space. The Vintage Iceberg countertops from contrasted the other darker finishes so beautifully.

It’s challenging renovating such a vintage space. I had so much appreciation for the original look. But it was also important to make sure the new aesthetic referenced the old without looking contrived or following too strictly to a 70’s theme…respecting the style and architecture with a modern interpretation.

And just like that, KPI is twenty years old! 🎉

What started in my basement as so many small businesses do to a large firm with multiple employees and then back to working on my own focusing on what I love…design. I am so proud of this journey that gave me a fulfilling career, provided for my family, and created so many spaces for hundreds of amazing clients.

To other small businesses owners, I get it. The long hours, sacrifice, daily challenges and commitment to taking your role seriously for the sake of your clients, contractors and vendors and working with integrity always.

And so much love and thanks to my incredible supportive husband and kids. The long vacations were few and the distractions were many…the reward of hard work hopefully evident.

Here’s to maybe not another 20 years 😬, but to continuing as long as the passion for design drives me. So much thanks to all of those who have been along for the journey!

From January to December, just a sample of my year in design. Always so thankful for my clients who allow me to design for such a wide variety of styles, understanding that good design makes any aesthetic more interesting AND functional.

And a huge thank you to all the architects, builders, contractors, tradespeople, vendors, designers and decorators with whom I’ve had the privilege to collaborate. It takes a TEAM to create a quality home and I’m so lucky to be able to work with the best!

This year is extra special because 2026 marks KPI’s 20th Anniversary! What an honor to be able to do what I love every day for so many years.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

We are about a month into having a functioning kitchen on our 70’s downsize and here are a few of my favorite things so far:

1. Layout. Having a functional layout for how YOU operate in the kitchen makes food prep so much more enjoyable. Especially for people like me who struggle to enjoy it. Even in my last kitchen where I had a large island, I still preferred to prep between my sink and my cooktop. So in this kitchen I prioritized that space placing the trash right in between to make cleanup efficient. Additional dedicated countertop spaces for a coffee station and toaster means less clutter where I’m prepping. While islands certainly serve their purpose, make sure that including one benefits your function as much as your aesthetic.

2. Induction. We finally took the leap and committed to an induction range and I am sold!! I love how fast it is and I find it cooks more evenly than our last gas cooktop. I absolutely love this range with the optional small convection oven. As empty-nesters, we do not often need to use the large oven and the smaller one heats up so quickly. Bonus for easy cleanup of the cooktop surface!

3. Sink. I have recommended this sink to so many clients and I finally have it for myself. It drains nicely without needing too much water. But my favorite feature is the roll-up drying rack! Small but impactful.

4. Color. My husband and I will never let go of our love for Walnut cabinets. This is our third kitchen that features them. But I introduced these beautiful golden matte laminate upper cabinets, ceramic lighting in terra cotta and green, ceramic tile with deep greens and gorgeous Vintage Ice quartzite from with veins of rust and orange. Color can be bright or earthy but this color combination is my personal preference and it’s repeated throughout the rest of the home.

Honorable mention to my large-scale tile floors. Love that the terrazzo look hides messes…maybe too well? Ha!

Finished just in time for the holidays! I love when a new build feels immediately like a comfortable home. Classic details, warm wood and furniture and décor by that coordinates perfectly with the design of the home. Christmas decor by our talented client!

I’m so lucky to be able to design for so many different styles and I appreciate my clients that let me take the time to really figure out their own personal aesthetic. From traditional to modern, cozy to expansive and everything in between. Good design will make any aesthetic feel effortless.

A random sample of just a few fireplaces I have designed over the years and a reintroduction to celebrate 5000 followers!

My design firm was established over 19 years ago and I have had the privilege to design for hundreds of clients on a wide variety of projects, from small to large. I started as a one-person company, grew quickly to ten employees, and over five years ago went back to working on my own. It has been an incredible ride and I appreciate all the twists and turns that got me to a place where I can design and manage my own projects but also collaborate with talented designers, architects, builders and tradespeople.

I only offer design, not decorating. And I primarily only design for new construction or large remodels. Because I work on my own, I have limited availability and cannot accept every project that is offered. But I am always happy to provide referrals for other design firms. Having worked in this market for so many years, I know many talented and professional designers that can help you if I cannot.

On a personal note, my awesome husband and I share five grown (and each amazing) children and one exceptional granddaughter. And our sweet pup Chloe.

Thank you to all of my followers. I can’t wait to share some great projects that are finishing up this year!

Showcasing a couple more great products from our newly-completed modern new build. This fun pendant against the also fun terrazzo tile. A little whimsy that still feels at place alongside the clean lines of the Satin Absolute Black granite vanity.

I have so many great images of this newly-finished magnificent modern home to share, but I wanted to first give a moment to this incredible backsplash. The texture carved into this natural limestone highlighted with just a hint of metallic is the perfect complement to the clean lines and natural finishes of this kitchen.
