I'm gonna tell you right now (I've got my glasses perched on the end of my nose & I'm looking at you over them.) If you haven't had the Cinnamon Sugar Sourdough Loaf from Wings and a Prairie Family Farm , you are super missing out.

I don't do sweets in the morning. I've offended a number of donut bringers and even my mother by not accepting the various pastries that are a normal part of the American breakfast in many places. Early morning sweets literally upset my stomach- sometimes just by their aroma.

But this freaking bread... this is everything I love about a cinnamon roll without everything I don't love at 7:00am. And also sourdough. You probably haven't tasted something like this before.

Next time you're at Craig County Farmers Market , you really should pick up a loaf. Your palate, stomach, & glycemic index will thank you.

If you have been wanting or know someone who has been wanting (a teenage daughter, let's just say) to learn guitar, I cannot recommend this one enough. The Orangewood Rey is priced for the non-committal aspirant, but plays like a much pricier guitar. The finishes are nice; not too glossy- especially on the neck. It sounds really nice and is easy to play.

Hello Grand Lake folk! This week we are back with a dwindling supply of handmade cold process lye soap, hope, and maybe peace on Earth. We can't guarantee that one but the market is pretty peaceful. We've got a few hundred bars curing but they won't be ready until mid to late June. You guys seem to like Craig County Soap and that fact, combined with this being our first season at Grove and not knowing what to expect, means we are running low on a number of things. We love you for that, but get it while you can.

Come by this Saturday morning (May 30th) for fresh produce, baked sourdough, homemade treats, crafts, preserves, and handmade lye soap to wash those sticky cinnamon roll encrusted hands. Gross, dude! By yourself some soap. Come out from 8:00am to 1:00pm to get some sunshine, do some local business, and engage in witty banter. I'm sure someone that can do that will be there.

*** MARKET IS MOVED TOMORROW TO FAIRGROUNDS BETWEEN 9:00AM & 1:00PM ***

Alright, Craig County! Round two. Craig County Farmers Market had a pretty sparse opening day on the 16th. This week we are back, with a few more vendors, great stuff, hope, and maybe peace on Earth. We can't guarantee that one but the market is pretty peaceful. Come by this Saturday morning (May 30th) for fresh produce, baked sourdough, homemade treats, crafts, preserves, and handmade lye soap to wash those sticky cinnamon roll encrusted hands. Gross, dude! By yourself some soap. Come out from 8:00am to noon to get some sunshine, do some local business, and engage in witty banter. I'm sure someone that can do that will be there.

Today was a far better day than we expected. Yesterday we woke up with all certainty that we had picked up chest colds. I just knew I was in for an interminable 40 hour work week of alternating medicine head & an embarrassing amount of coughing with everyone wondering why I insisted on being there.

Not sure what it was, but we felt fairly decent today. I managed to do a bit of weeding (all of it, rather) and cooked a dinner fit for rural Oklahoman royalty were it a thing. A roast from Lyles Custom Meat Processing smoked over the course of 11 hours, mashed potatoes with gravy made from the drippings, and coleslaw made with red cabbage, carrots, & mustard greens from the garden. Also a fresh batch of JW Suffridge & Sons El Ka-Flamo! Bovver Sauce. Be on the lookout for it at market next year.

Not a bad outcome for the start of a week with every appearance of misery in store. Thank you, Lord God, for your generous providence.

"Gooood Morning to you! Good morning to you! Good morning Craig County! Goooood morning to you!" (Looks like Android did another useless bloody update so you're not getting musical note emojis.)

Mr. McCreary used to walk into VHS shop class singing a variation of that at the top of his lungs to the tune of Happy Birthday to You. Half the class hated it enough to ALMOST dare to tell him to shut up. That old man was a terror to us screw-offs, but he introduced me to a trade that I'm still at today. God rest his soul.

Anyway... we'll be set up at the Grove Farmers Market this morning. If you're in the area, stop by & score fresh produce, homemade preserves, maybe some pickled quail eggs, & really good local but still affordable poultry from EdoubleE Farms LLC. You won't want mega-factory farm chicken again. And of course a few bars of handmade lye soap to wash off the lake water, fish smell, and chicken juice before dinner... you should probably wash off the lake water & fish before you touch the chicken.

Have a great day, fellow Northeast Oklahomans!

OKLAHOMA HOMEMADE FOOD FREEDOM ACT

So after our last post about farmers' market vendors, we've been approached by a several people who are concerned about certifications & licensure requirements for legally selling food items.

Be encouraged! Oklahoma has some of the most liberal cottage food law in the nation. By "liberal", we're not talking about the awfulness that is liberal vs. conservative politics- we're referring to the allowance of liberty. And Oklahoma's cottage food law definitely has that.

Here is a link to the main page for the Oklahoma Homemade Food Freedom Act:
https://extension.okstate.edu/fact-sheets/homemade-food-freedom-act-fapc-242

If you've really been wanting to sell produce or homemade food at the Craig County Farmers Market (or any farmers' market) but have been fearful of the legality or red tape that may be involved, give the link a good going over. There really isn't much there because we really do have pretty good policy here.

And if you are selling something where you are required or strongly encouraged to get something like a food handler's permit, it is usually pretty quick, easy, and inexpensive to obtain.

A farmers' market is a great place to make some extra money, meet great people, and get some sunshine. Try it. You'll like it.

Our seasonal shower bar, Cucurbita Cool, is back in stock!

Summer is approaching in Northeast Oklahoma! And with it comes that yucky, grimy layer of crud you get when you've been working outside & you get sweaty & dusty at the same time. When you rub the sweat off your forehead, it comes off on your fingers makes you feel filthy. And you're already overheated. Dang! What do you do?

Cucurbita Cool is just the ticket. We make this soap with puree of the whole cucumber; pulp, rind, and seeds. Our base oils include EVOO and shea butter to moisturize. Add to that a stout dose of peppermint & eucalyptus essential oils & you've got a shower soap that powers away that grime & leaves you feeling cool & refreshed.

I freaking love this stuff after some summer gardening! We only make this for the warm seasons. Come by the Craig County Farmers Market or Grove Farmers Market this Saturday (we'll be at both) & pick up a few bars.
