Meet the Pazyryk Rug - the oldest known surviving knotted pile carpet in the world. 🧶🧞‍♂️

Dating back to around the 5th century BCE, this incredible rug is more than 2,000 years old. It was discovered in 1949 inside a frozen burial mound in the Altai Mountains of Siberia, where the icy conditions helped preserve its remarkable detail.

Measuring roughly 6 x 6.5 feet, the Pazyryk Rug features intricate borders of horsemen, deer, and geometric designs, all created using sophisticated knotting and weaving techniques that show just how advanced rug making already was thousands of years ago.

Today, the original Pazyryk Rug is preserved at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. 🇷🇺
