Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither is an Empire. 👑

What you're looking at is the beginning of our next Empire Series planter.

Cedar panels. Pine panels. Black legs.

Each piece started as raw lumber. Now, after cutting, sanding, routing, and finishing, they're ready to come together.

There's something satisfying about laying everything out and seeing the design begin to take shape. What was once an idea is finally becoming something you can hold in your hands.

And the best part? We haven't even assembled it yet.

Stay tuned. An Empire is about to be born.

Rome Wasn't Built in a Day. Neither Is an Empire.

A little behind the scenes look at what's happening in our workshop.

The cedar panels are prepared. The pine panels are ready. The black legs are waiting for their place in the finished design.

What started as a collection of lumber is slowly becoming something much more.

There's something incredibly satisfying about watching a design move from an idea to individual components, and eventually to a finished piece.

We're getting closer.

The Empire Series is taking shape.

Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither will what these become.

Right now: raw stock.

Next: routing, shaping, sanding, joinery, assembly and finish.

Eventually? Something beautiful.

This is where it begins.

Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither will what these become.

Right now, it's just raw stock.
Cut pieces. Rough edges. Saw marks. Different colors and grain patterns that haven't quite shown us what they're going to become yet.

But that's the fun part.

Over the next few days, these pieces will be routed, shaped, sanded, joined, assembled and finished. Somewhere along the way, they'll stop looking like a pile of lumber and start becoming something beautiful.

For now? This is where it begins.

Stay tuned. 🌲

The Chocolate Moment.

This is one of my favorite parts of working with Cedar.

As you work through the sanding grits, every now and then the heartwood begins to reveal what was hiding beneath the rough surface. Deep cocoa tones emerge, the grain starts flowing out from the knots, and the figure almost seems to move as the light catches it.

You keep sanding. Keep watching it develop.

And eventually there's that moment where you stop, look at the board and just say...

"...wow."

Around the shop, we've started calling that The Chocolate Moment.

The tree did the hard part. We just get the privilege of revealing it.

Let the wood do the talking.

This is one of those little moments that makes woodworking worth it.
As Cedar heartwood moves through the sanding process, those deep cocoa tones and flowing grain slowly reveal themselves.
Every board is different. Every reveal is different.

Around our shop, this one has earned a name:
The Chocolate Moment.

Let the wood do the talking.

Prototype 001 Generation I

Every prototype answers questions.

Generation I answered quite a few.

Cleaner joinery. Improved proportions. A better sign. A better product.
That's the point of prototyping, not perfection, but progress.

Prototype 011 Begins

Not every prototype has to reinvent the wheel.

Sometimes a successful design creates another idea.

A simple cedar storage box. Finger-jointed. Functional. Built to last.
Prototype 011 is proof that good ideas tend to multiply.

Nature Designed This

No stain. No filters.

Just cedar doing what cedar has done for centuries.

Some boards don't need to be improved. They simply need someone willing to let them speak.

Every Finger Counts

Each finger joint is cut individually and fit by hand.

It's slower than screws. It's more demanding than pocket holes.

But when everything locks together perfectly, the joint becomes part of the design instead of something to hide.
Sometimes the strongest feature is also the most beautiful.
