Being real here, the loss of my mother is and has been hard on so many levels, but also profoundly impactful on my own growth and identity. Navigating her cancer journey and her passing is providing an opportunity to grow deeper in my faith and heal parts of my past. I know this sounds heavy, but it really isn’t. It’s actually quite beautiful. The time has also revealed a history of tremendous blessings and gifts I’ve had in front of me all along but hadn’t quite paused long enough to treasure and give thanks for them.
I’ve reconnected to music making. I’ve enjoyed the quiet stillness in sunrises and time with my Creator. Community, friendship, and family has blossomed in ways I could never have imagined. So, I’ve decided to transform my craft room into a more deliberate sanctuary for me to sit, find stillness, and create.
Up until now, the craft room has been the “crap room” where all the things without a home go to float along with my many percussion instruments squeezed along the walls and in the middle of the room. I’m taking an intentional approach to recreating this space. Since my marimba is the biggest thing in the room, that was the original “inspiration piece” but from an aesthetic, vibe, and mood standpoint, the wallpaper is the diva and the inspiration behind the rest of the room, prompted by a recent trip to Joshua Tree. My goals for this room are to balance moodiness with cheerfulness, stillness with movement, rest with activity. I giggle because these are bold goals. This is my interpretation of those goals through an aesthetic which reflects my voice within.
I am in looooooove with the oasis wallpaper. IN LOVE. Ask me how many days I scrolled to find it. I love the hunt for the right product, and I didn’t give up until I found this one. I make the same commitment to my clients.
Having trouble finding your design voice? I would love to help you. I’m here to help you form a cohesive, comfortable, and sophisticated space that is a beautiful expression of you.
