“ All THREE Moldacot’s’”
Hi Folks!!!
An interesting somewhat messy history…
The perfect pocket portable, two thread lock stitch…. Short-Lived wonder… from the mind of S.A. Rosenthol, who applied for the patent for this machine in 1885!
Moldacot the name comes from 2 other lads… A.D. Moll & J.C. Cottam, who hold the patents for improvements to the machine to actually get the machine to work!
By 1886 the machine was in production in at least 2 different locations in the UK, and at-least 1 German manufacturer is known to have existed.
By 1888 the company had collapsed, and reports at the time indicated 1,000’s of unsold machines were liquidated due to poor sales.
Also reported but 100% FALSE, is that these machines were a scam and never actually worked. I know this is 100% false because I myself have gotten these machines to work before, and for the first time ever publicly I’m gonna debunk this myth and tell you why these machines were thought to have been a nonworking fraud.
It all has to do with the agreement that Moldacot had with the spool/thread company Horrockses.
These original thread spools simply do not work on these machines.
One day while trying to determine why these machines reportedly never really worked… I popped on a spool of coats and Clark’s thread, threaded the machine, and voilà a perfect tooth thread lock stitch!!!
Enjoy!!!
