Artie Fartie ripped his buck apron in two for the second time in a week. Unfortunately, being a Nigerian Dwarf, he developed sexually at only a few weeks old and has been going after the ladies to breed (which we don't want!). With the buck apron not being a reliable method to keep him off the ladies, and being a few weeks too young to castrate yet, we quickly threw together a pallet enclosure for the day and have him separated. He is not a fan but I think all the girls are breathing a sign of relief. I'm not sure what the long-term plan is but this at least gives us a little breathing room to figure it out.

Ugh. Another fail. Back to the drawing board!

Burp my kombucha with me!!! Kombucha is a staple in our kitchen. I have 6 gallons brewing on the counter at all times, bottles second fermenting with juice, and bottles in the fridge for consumption. Seth and I drink a full glass daily with the kids drinking a various amount inconsistently. Do you like kombucha?

I use a lot of cheese cloths, for milking, cheese making, yogurt thickening and more! Obviously they go through the wash, but to give them that extra level of sanitizing for food use, I boil them in baking soda water and air dry them on my chandelier. Country life is never as aesthetic as they want you to think 😆

Process Kefir with me! This quart of raw goat milk sat on the counter with kefir grains for 36 hours. Now it's time to strain out the grains to reuse them, sweeten it up with some fruit, and dish them into personal serving bottles. I make approximately 4 batches of Kefir a week and they all get consumed very quickly!

Daveed's Dozens and Lukias's Layers are looking for customers!

Daveed is 11 and owns 16 chickens. He saved up his money, bought them himself, built them a coop and cares for them. 8 of them are currently laying with 7 more estimated to start laying in August. He sells his free range eggs for $5/dz.

Lukias is 9 and owns 4 ducks. He was gifted them by a neighbor and is working with Daddy to build them a nice coop and repurpose an old bathtub into a pond for them. They are fenced into our garden to keep the bugs and grubs at bay. He is currently selling his duck eggs for $8/dz.

Message me if you want direct messages when eggs are ready! Extra eggs will be placed at the farmstand once it's ready.
