When installing floating floors, having a flat substrate is crucial to the success of the installation. This home in Oconomowoc recently decided they wanted to finish part of their basement. The concrete slab was not flat according to the specifications of the manufacturer. At Illustrious Flooring we have never seen a concrete slab that was flat enough to just install over without some amount of subfloor prep. The homeowner is now all set to tackle this installation himself with a nearly perfectly flat subfloor thanks to our pouring of self level.

A basement in Oconomowoc recently got a very nice kitchenette upgrade. Illustrious Flooring was brought in to deal with slab that was not flat and get the flooring installed. Not all projects for us have to be large.

The slab was not flat which can lead to the floating floor failing over time as the joints flex from deflection. We started by figuring out how much self level it would take to make the floor flat. Then we damned up the areas where the product did not need to go, protected the bottom 3 inches of the walls and provided expansion space. Then we primed and poured the floor. To help reduce the amount of humidity created and allow the self level to release moisture a little faster, we provided a dehumidifier as well.

Now that the slab was flat we were able to put down our 6mil plastic v***r barrier to reduce v***r emissions from the slab. Finally we got the flooring installed and made the space functional.

New flooring not only changes how your space feels in terms of warmth but also in size. Our recent client wanted something a little easier to maintain than their current carpet. Once the carpet was removed, the remove was prepped for the LVP installation. The new flooring not only warmed up the space but it helped the room to feel larger than it was once the furniture was put back in. While we were at it, the baseboards received an upgrade as well.
