Tranformation Tip Tuesday:

We all have pieces that quietly follow us through different seasons of life.

This one started in my parents’ business decades ago. Today, it’s where our family reaches for game night, rainy-day puzzles, and that deck of cards that somehow always disappears.

I think the most meaningful spaces aren’t filled with brand-new things—they’re filled with objects that have earned their place.

A little imagination can turn something purely practical into something that makes you smile every time you walk by.

What’s one piece in your home that deserves another chapter?

Some of the best celebrations aren’t the loudest.

They’re the porch conversations that stretch past sunset.
The backyard tables filled with people you love.
The wildflowers picked on the walk home.
The old chairs that somehow become everyone’s favorite seat.

However you’re celebrating today, here’s to spaces that gather people, living stories worth telling, and discovering the beauty in the everyday.

From Curbside Castoff to Victorian Royalty

Latest update on the Yellow Velvet Sofa Rescue — one of our many projects currently underway!

I’m calling this Furniture Kintsugi.

Honoring the scars. Transforming them into something even more beautiful than before. Growth through healing. ✨

What began as a worn, neglected curbside castoff has become a one-of-a-kind statement piece, with every repair, embellishment, and thoughtful detail adding to its story rather than erasing it.

Because beauty isn’t always found in perfection. Sometimes it’s found in resilience, reinvention, and the courage to become something new.

Saved. Restored. Reimagined. 💛

We’ve been deep in creative motion—painting, building, styling, planting, rescuing furniture, and turning “what if…” into real spaces.

Some projects are finished. Others are still covered in dust, paint, tools, and possibility—that’s where the magic starts.

FFDS was created to inspire beautiful, approachable spaces by blending creativity, sustainability, and thoughtful design. As we continue to grow, we’ll be sharing more than finished rooms—we’ll take you behind the scenes of our projects, highlight local businesses and makers we love, showcase thrifted and rescued finds, and offer ideas, inspiration, and practical tips for creating spaces with character and purpose.

And Foreman Frank is still supervising everything. 🐾

Transformation Tip Tuesday ✨

Small room, big impact.

In this bedroom, we didn’t add a single square foot—but it feels bigger. Here’s why:
We drew the eye forward.

By adding a dark, floral peel-and-stick wallpaper to the back wall and reorienting the bed to face it, the room now has a clear focal point and a sense of depth it didn’t have before.

It’s a simple shift:
➡️ Give the eye somewhere to land
➡️ Create contrast in the right place
➡️ Let layout do the heavy lifting

The result? A room that feels larger, more intentional, and pulled together—without any renovation.

We talk a lot about "real homes." Let's dig into that!

We all daydream about perfect, photo-ready spaces in our homes. The reality is you have kids, you have projects, you're in a constant state of putting away laundry. Real lives (and real homes) aren't always ready to be on a magazine cover.

Take our very own space. We rent a typical '60s rancher. Between the three of us, it's not a lot of space to share! Enter (at your own risk) our basement. A completely unfinished space in a home we don't own. When renovation isn't an option, you have to get clever to make a space work for you. Using a combination of existing furniture, marketplace finds, and inexpensive rugs and curtains, we were able to transform a stark, gray, concrete box into a TV room, play room, homeschool classroom, office space, and art studio.

Is it as well-manicured as our main floor? Of course not. It's rough around the edges, there is no ceiling, a bare concrete floor, there are exposed pipes and ducts... but it *works*. Having this dedicated space downstairs keeps school work out of the dining room, Legos off of the living room floor, art projects off of the dinner table, and everybody out of each other's hair! 😆

When we say "real homes" this is exactly what we mean.
