Do you also wonder what Panera Bread has to do with quilting? Let’s find out!

Over the last few years I’ve been privileged to be able to travel the world for both work and play meeting quilters of different cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds than only the quilters inside my bubble at home. These interactions, traded stories, and friendships have only made me a better person, creative, artist, and quilter. This is only one reason it’s important to build a diverse quilting community.

Rashida Coleman-Hale and Jen Hewett are only two of the talented women of color in our industry, and they by no means need me standing up and speaking on their behalf. However, we shouldn’t be demanding women of color to produce free labor to make us feel more comfortable, check a box, and pat ourselves on the back.

It’s good to be asking for more from the major companies in our industry, but we also need to do the work ourselves. So ask how we can be the change we need in our communities and ourselves. I’m not saying I’m perfect, but I do try to keep learning, and the only person responsible for me learning how to be better is myself.

Teaching other quilters has become my favorite part of my job. I love helping them conquer their fears, gain confidence in something new, and simply have fun while sewing. This summer was packed with traveling to teach at guilds and quilt shops all over the country. I’m so proud of my students and what they achieve during my workshops.

If your guild or local quilt shop is looking for teachers, please send them my way. I’d love to come sew with you.

Thank you to Samantha Steele for sharing these awesome clips during my workshop this summer at The Sewing Box Quilt Shop

I was working on building a color palette for a project I’m working on and just could visualize it on my computer screen. So my friend and I visited my local Art Gallery Fabrics® - AGF Pure Solids supplier, WebFabrics so I could put my hands on the fabrics. I stacked many towers of fabric bolts, and played with the colors until everything felt just right. I now have a clearer vision for my project and a beautiful stack of fabric to fuel my imagination. Thank goodness for local quilt shops. I’d be lost without you.

I was able to get one of Kate Hay ‘s Toy Story 5 inspired FQ bundles and now I’m contemplating what I want to create with it. It’s definitely not a bundle I want sitting on my shelves. I want to get in there and cut this up to create something fun. What should I create with it? What would you make?

I’m so excited to share that I will be teaching at QuiltCon in Atlanta! I’m honored to be teaching alongside so many great quilting instructors and I can’t wait to share all of the details. Will I see you in Atlanta?
