They see the finished spaces… but not the story behind the woman who created them

Allow me to reintroduce myself 🤍 If you’re new here, I’m Kay, the face and designer behind Signatures by Kay. Before stepping fully into interior design, I spent over six years working in the child welfare system in Washington, D.C. That experience built my strength, my patience, and my ability to show up even when things weren’t easy.

My transition into this wasn’t random. It was God led. When my grandmother became ill, I stepped away from my career to care for her full time for eight months. During that time, I didn’t have consistent income and I didn’t fully understand what God was doing in my life, but I trusted Him.

And He made a way.What started as something I did on the weekends turned into my full focus. I was led to pour into my business, grow it, and walk fully in my purpose without going back to what felt comfortable. Now years later, I am building something bigger than I ever imagined. Not just a business, but a brand, a team, and a legacy that will continue to take care of my family and impact others.

Even after my grandmother’s passing, her love, her lessons, and her presence still guide me. She didn’t just raise me, she prepared me. Today, I design spaces that reflect luxury, peace, and intention because I understand what home truly means.

5 years of purpose. 5 years of growth. Cheers to many more. 🥂

This 5 year journey didn’t start the way many people think. Before fully stepping into my business, I spent 6 years working for the DC Child Welfare system, with the last 3 years serving as a supervisor. But during that time, life shifted. My grandmother’s health began declining, and I found myself in a position where I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life.

I chose to step away from my career to care for the woman who once cared for me. At the time, I didn’t know what life would look like next. My business was still young, and there were moments where I truly didn’t know how things would work out. But one thing I’ve learned over these last five years is that when God redirects your path, He already has a plan.

Year after year, God has continued to show me that I was exactly where I needed to be. From working with incredible clients, traveling for projects, collaborating with amazing people, and even working with influencers and public figures — every opportunity has been a reminder of His grace.

Losing my grandmother last year was one of the hardest moments of my life, but it also showed me that the sacrifice I made was never in vain.

This business has taught me more than design.
It taught me faith.
It taught me resilience.
It taught me my worth.
