One year ago today, we signed the papers and Hill’s Kitchen became ours.

We had absolutely no idea what we were getting into. We knew we loved food, we knew we loved this neighborhood, and we knew we wanted to build something community-driven. What we did not know what how much this community would show up for us and how much that would mean.

What surprised us the most this year was learning exactly how much a small business can mean to the people around it. The folks of Capitol Hill have shown up for two people who were very much figuring it out as they went. We expanded faster than we ever planned (cooking classes weren’t even in the business plan until year three, and here we are!). We made a lot of mistakes. We learned from every single one of them. And through all of it, this community had been patient, supportive, and kind. We will never take that for granted.

To everyone who has shopped with us, taken a class, come to an event, or simply walked through the door, thank you. You are the reason we do this.

Year two starts today. We cannot wait to see what it brings.

Not every class at Hill’s Kitchen involves a knife.

We believe food is worth understanding as much as it is worth eating, which is why alongside our hands-on cooking classes we host a series of lecture-style events that dig into the history and the science of what ends up on your plate.

🍓Culinary Botany: Fruit
Thursday, May 14 • 6:00 - 7:30pm • $15
Did you know a grain of wheat is technically a fruit? Or that a peach pit might be laced with cyanide? Join Dr. Charles Delwiche for a deep dive into the fascinating science behind fruits!

🥛Food History Bites: Milk
Wednesday, May 27 • 6:00 - 7:30pm • $25
Food historian Dr. Kelly Spring returns to Hill’s Kitchen to trace the wild history of milk, from ancient pastoral societies to the alt-milk explosion. Miles will be preparing a milk-forward dish to round out the evening.

Two fantastic events. Link in bio to grab your spot for both!
