We Handle the Piano, Too

One of the things clients don’t always realize about estate liquidation and home cleanout projects is just how many moving parts there are—including, sometimes, a piano.

On a recent job, a large upright piano had to come up a challenging set of exterior stairs. The moving team used the truck ramp—and then built two additional ramps on the spot to make it happen safely.

I just read a story in Chesapeake Bay Journal about the Delmarva Discovery Museum getting a new lease on life. I've never been there, but the story mentioned museum residents Mac and Tuck -- a pair of river otters. That brought back a golden memory from my youth: A river otter once pulled up beside my canoe in Florida and rode alongside me for a while. I never forgot it.

I know we all support many causes, but I hope you'll join me in making a donation to help the museum thrive. Help kids fall in love with river otters today, maybe they become environmental champions tomorrow.

Rumors of its demise had swirled for years. But this time, there was no denying it: The Delmarva Discovery Museum really was closing.

For Sale: 1781 Yale / Ezra Stiles Revolutionary War Era Broadside Framed -- $995

Offering this to our Orion's Attic friends first, before sending to auction. First person to respond here "I'll take it" gets it. Pick up in Silver Spring. No shipping. Measures a little under 18 inches wide by a little under 18 inches tall.

This is a legitimately interesting and desirable early American academic broadside, not decorative repro junk. The key details are strong:

* Dated 1781 (Revolutionary War era)
* Associated with Ezra Stiles, one of the major early Yale figures
* Printed in Hartford by Hudson & Goodwin
* Latin academic disputation broadside tied to Yale commencement exercises
* Includes the name Joel Barlow, who later became a notable American poet, diplomat, and political figure
* Large original sheet with good visual presence

The survival rate on these is not huge because they were ephemeral working/ceremonial documents.

Oscar the Grouch Approves Our Estate Cleanout

Most estate cleanouts generate $500–$700 in landfill fees. Our last two? Just $70 and $150.

That’s what happens when you work hard to donate, recycle, resell and give objects a second life instead of just throwing everything away.

We’re proud when more usable items stay in the community and out of the landfill. Even Oscar the Grouch says we’re doing a pretty good job keeping junk out of his house.
