Changing your floors can be expensive and labor intensive especially if you’ve already moved in.
Instead of changing our floors, we sanded it and stained which I love, Iove, love! However, if I were to do it all over again, I would’ve researched the type of flooring we had and looked into how to manipulate it to achieve the desired look. We were initially invoiced $2,500 but ended up paying $2,900 because of my indecisiveness 😭. Designers are indecisive too, but what helps is having a plan.
Take out your notebooks or simply save this post:
- Research the existing flooring, especially if you’ve already moved are changing the stain color.
- See it virtually and determine what goes more with your desired style. Go darker (expresso) or lighter (white oak) if you’ve already moved want contemporary. If you like mid-century mod or farmhouse look into wood stains with red subtle undertones like walnut.
- It’s recommended to change the flooring before moving in so the dust doesn’t get everywhere. However, if you are already settled in, cover and move items.
