Feel silly carrying your magnifier?

Meanwhile, someone else just spent two hours scrolling things they’ll never think about again.

You spent twenty minutes discovering something real.

Learning texture. Pattern. Tiny details. How to notice.

That may seem small…

until one day you’re identifying a plant, reading a landscape, finding a trail marker, or solving a problem because you learned to actually see.

Carry the magnifier.

Curiosity isn’t silly.

- This may or may not be the exact reason my future shoppe is filling up with magnifiers, notebooks, field tools, art supplies, and botanical oddities. 🤭

Also... I have received zero guesses on where my shoppe is opening up.

HINT: it's in Watertown. Prize - two tickets to a future workshop or small group creative private session.

May the forest be with you.

This setup cost far less than most people imagine.

One of my favorite things about learning lettering, drafting, illustration, and production methods is that the skills keep paying you back over time.

Better layouts. Cleaner work. More confidence. Less wasted material. More ability to create what you need instead of buying every solution.

Sometimes creativity isn't about having the fanciest tools.

Sometimes it is learning how to make simple tools — and practiced hands — do extraordinary things.

Working on a custom piece today and thought I'd share a little of the process.

Working on something special for Father’s Day.

Custom hand-illustrated and hand-lettered cards designed around your recipient — a parent, grandparent, spouse, mentor, friend, or meaningful father figure.

Tell me about them.
Their personality, interests, favorite sayings, quiet strengths, hobbies, memories, or the little details that make them them.

I’ll create something made specifically for that person.

Some places begin as buildings.

Others begin as a feeling that refuses to leave you alone.

Lately, I keep finding myself sketching spaces filled with warm light, drying herbs, handmade paper, botanical studies, old wood, greenhouse glass, seedlings, flowers, and long tables where people gather to create with their hands again.

A place where landscape design, craftsmanship, nature, illustration, and quiet observation all exist together.

Not rushed.
Not mass produced.
Not loud.

Just intentional.

I do not have the final space yet.

But I have the vision.
And I believe the right doors open when the time is right.

Ever wonder how a landscape goes from a blank space to something that feels intentional, balanced, and beautiful?

This is a peek into how I think.

Before anything gets planted, I map out structure, height, and personality—right down to how each plant *feels* next to the other. Tall, upright forms anchor the space. Soft, airy textures add movement. Dense, tidy shapes keep everything grounded and formal.

Then comes the layering:
✔️ Complementary shapes (upright, mounded, airy)
✔️ Color harmony across seasons
✔️ Texture contrast so nothing falls flat
✔️ And most importantly—plants that actually THRIVE in the conditions (shade, moisture, deer pressure… all of it matters)

This sketch is how I “see” a garden before it exists—so when it’s installed, it already works.

Good design isn’t random. It’s intentional from the very first line.

If you want a landscape that feels cohesive, low-stress, and built to last, that’s exactly what I do at Crystal Clear Estimates LLC 🌿
