This weekends carvings. The catchall trays are Wenge. That board was $45 for a 5 inch by 4 ft board.

Same test. Which is better. Same image 3d carved, vcarved and laser engraved. There is a twist this time. The 3d carved one was done on hard maple. For 3d carving a hard wood is definitely the way to go.it holds the detail much better than pine. The vcarve is another story. This one is pine and all you have to do is stain it and the vcarve jumps out. With a hard wood you end up having to paint to get the contrast. The laser engraved one is still up in the air it's on a 4" coaster the vcarve is 10"+. I think it might be closer to the vcarve if they were both the same size.
