When I designed our playroom, I didn’t want to create a room that only worked for the kids. Parents spend a lot of time in these spaces too, so adding a comfortable sofa created a place where I could sit, relax, read, or simply be in the room while the kids played.

Then comes storage. When toys, games, books, and art supplies have designated places to go, the playroom can actually function without constantly feeling cluttered.

The moment I saw it, I knew I wanted to create a moodier, warmer sitting room around it with layered textures, deeper tones, soft lighting, and pieces that feel collected instead of overly styled.

I didn’t expect moving to the South to influence my style this much… but it did.

Over time, I started gravitating toward warmer colors, more traditional details, and spaces that feel layered and lived-in.

And now, this is the feeling I naturally create in the homes I design.

A lot of homes I see in the Charlotte area are beautiful, but they feel unfinished — and usually it’s not a big change that’s needed, just the right direction.
