The Front Yard sure hopes everyone is having a marvelous Monday! The teeny bit of relief is being felt by those double-digit temps today and we sure do appreciate it, too.

Take a look at these 2 sun-loving plants that have colorful blooms:

1. Butterfly Blue Pea-it is sprouting buds to bloom, and its rich blue flowers are edible, you can make tea out of them, and it turns colors from deep blue liquid to a purple when lemon is squeezed in to it. Once you research this plant, you will see the many benefits it has for us.

2. Variegated Bougainvillea-it is ready to be planted in a large pot or as a bedding plant and it absolutely loves being out in the sunshine as well.

These are among the easiest plants to care for as they require little attention. A periodic sprinkle with the water hose will do them well and their blooms are so colorful.

Greetings to all from The Front Yard on this fine Saturday! How about that rain late yesterday afternoon/evening!!! We checked our rain gauge as soon as we opened this morning at 10:00 a.m. and there was almost an inch-8/10's to be exact, and we were so grateful. What a blessing it was...

We had folks coming in today and all anyone wanted was Macho Ferns, based on yesterday's posting on FB. We sold all 4 of them before noon, and people still wanted some more. Yeah! Danny & Teressa got busy and brought some more up from the grow houses in back and now there are even 2 Boston Ferns to come see. We also sold out of the huge Airplane plants, with their trailing tails of newborns, too, but not to be discouraged, because there are more and the price is right, too.

It was a good day out here on Hwy 90 and we are thankful to be able to provide what customers are looking for. Thanks for coming by to see us!

The Front Yard listens to our customers and tries to provide what they are looking for. Despite the heat, we know many are working on getting their flower beds and vegetable garden soil worked on by turning it over and adding organic matter so that it's ready when it comes time to plant that fall garden. Others may think it's too soon or that we're crazy, but when customers ask, we try to provide.

What is on the vegetable table right now are plants that can take the heat such as:

-Megatron Jalapenos are big ones with a medium heat factor, which makes them perfect for poppers! There are some that are already close to picking.
-Heat-resistant tomatoes are doing well and flowering too, so take a look at the tags below.
-Big Beef Tomatoes are small but standing their ground as well.
-Shish*to Peppers are ready for your stir fry now! Come get you some as they are not hot but add a lot of flavor.

So, if you are up for the challenge, you may have a head start with these. More plants will be coming in as the days cool down a little bit, such as Celebrity and Juliet tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, and greens. In the meanwhile, what is on the table is being quite productive!

Hello to everyone from The Front Yard! We are hard at work keeping plants alive and well out here on Hwy 90. They are doing marvelous and it is just amazing despite the heat factor.

Along with the usuals of Vinca/Periwinkles, Bougainvillea, and Pentas, we want to show you a couple of indoor plants too. There is an assortment of Dieffenbachia Plants with different color patterns that are very vibrant, along with Prayer plants, Pothos Ivy baskets, and succulents.

The Macho Ferns are looking fantastic and have you heard of the "Mother of Thousands" Kalanchoe plant? Take a look at the photos and see what we are talking about. Each leaf produces many, and we mean many, little plants that are each ready to plant and take off on their own. Do you see the roots already sticking out? Once it drops to the ground, it is ready to survive and thrive, so you will have plants to give as gifts or to fill your pots. Everything wants to live, right!

Come on in and take a look at what is doing well. With that Kalanchoe, it doesn't matter what color your thumb is! We have been missing you all and hope to see you soon. A big shout-out to all who have come out and offered praise and encouragement by shopping here and by buying local. Your support is much appreciated, and we sure do hope to see you soon!

Warning: Long post & no photos. There are truly Angels here on earth with us, each and every day, if we only slow down enough to notice. Yesterday, we had an encounter with 2 of our regular customers that just left us in awe.

One person came in and greeted us excitedly, saying how glad she was that we were open because she had missed us during the prior week that we had been closed. She stopped by to pick up some color for her front porch, and she wandered about The Front Yard, saying she would know what she was looking for when she saw it.

Moments later she came in with some plants in her arms, and she had one plant that was a "wish plant", if she had enough cash on her to pay for it. Once we tallied up her ticket, she decided to put the $11.99 plant back and asked us to save it for her, so she could pick it up next week when she got paid. We said, "sure, no problem", and put her name/phone number on the plant so it would be here when she came back. All was well, she paid for the other plants, and we both said we'd see each other next week.

About an hour later, another of our regular customers came in and was frantic about an event she was hosting this weekend because she needed some new plants to dress up her patio. She wandered through the rows and the shade houses up front, and amassed quite a load of hanging baskets, plants to be placed in pots, and she found the colors she was looking for too. Whew! We were both hot and sweaty when she came in to pay for her purchase.

The first lady's plant that we had just put her name on and were going to hold it for her, was still sitting on the front counter. We moved it and she asked about why there was a name on it. So, we told her how we were holding for another person, blah, blah, blah, when out of the blue, she said, "add it to my ticket right now". We were confused, but she said "something good just happened to me and I want to do something good for someone else". Wow!

We were instructed to call the first lady and tell her to come pick up her plant because it was paid for. How cool is that? We called the person and told her what had just happened, and she started to cry with us over the phone. She said she had gotten home and said a prayer of thanks for the new plants that she had and that she had the means to pay for and take care of them. So, she felt like her prayers had been heard and she had just won 1st prize in a contest! All of us were touched by the acts of kindness and gratitude we were blessed to witness.

Teressa's staff were blown away by the generosity, humility, and gratitude demonstrated by both of our lovely customers, who do not even know each other, but also at how each of us was impacted by the actions of another. We all concluded that an Angel had come to visit us and we celebrated how there are good people in the world. For one afternoon, we had a cool breeze from Heaven pass through The Front Yard, and it sure did get all of our attention! Amen, and thanks so much! We sure hope to see you all soon.

Hello, everyone! The Front Yard is back and open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays. Dedicated staff members, along with family help, kept our plants watered and cared for during our absence, so everything is looking good out here on Hwy 90.

The Large Jalapeno peppers are looking good and are ready for some "clean" salsa/pico de gallo/poppers for your pleasure. The Big Bertha bell peppers and Shish*to peppers are flowering and will bear fruit soon. There are also heat-resistant tomato plants for those who love a challenge.

We will not receive any relief from the heat any time soon, but it is also time to consider getting your garden and vegetable beds ready by adding some compost and turning the ground over. For the many of us who are planning to wait for cooler weather, we may be in for a long wait, okay. We understand, believe us!

Today's sales included a beautiful Pothos Ivy that will adorn an elementary school office, and both parties were just ecstatic to be able to find such a prize locally. You don't have to travel far to find a quality gift at reasonable prices, so come see us! We will be so glad to see you all.

It is definitely "porch-sitting" time! Some folks came in this morning and picked up a porch leaner and a couple of those porch signs.

Just in case you might be curious, here are a few more of the metal porch signs to chuckle at. They do make great conversation starters! No titles needed.

Good Tuesday afternoon! The Front Yard wants to show you all some of the new Porch Leaners we have out here, and the Mason Jar Porch Signs are always good for a chuckle too.

There are so many items to look at once you come inside, and many of them make awesome gift ideas. A Thermometer for the porch; to go with that sign, or a rain gauge to stake out in the yard for accurate recordings, or perhaps a yard flag to add some color and movement to a flower bed or garden area.

There are also some large flowerpots on the black top that were hand-made and have been glazed as well. We had the opportunity to meet Mr. Ricardo Venegas, the actual artist who created them and he has signed each one on the bottom. They are quite unique and special, too!

So, we just want to remind everyone that The Front Yard will BE CLOSED all of next week. That's right, from Monday, Aug. 10th, through Saturday, Aug. 15th, we will be closed.

It'll be time for family visits, shopping trips, and just slowing down a bit for us and our staff. It's hard to believe that school is about to start already! We do appreciate your patience with us as we take some time to wind down a little before the holiday season is upon us. We'll see you on Monday, Aug. 17th!
