Just another reason we love our downtown neighbors!
As many of you have noticed, the beautiful street clock in front of our shop has been undergoing refurbishment this past year.
We are excited with the progress!
Local artist (and frankly a magician in our opinion) has been working on restoring the clock faces. While carefully scrubbing away at faded paint and grime she noticed the faint etching on the glass that revealed the original words on the clock. Pangborn & Groves Jewelers was hiding right there in plain sight. In this photo you can see Josie doing her work to restore the fave back to what it looked like in 1920 when it arrived here in Wenatchee. Clyde Pangborn, the famous aviator, had a brother named Percy Pangborn who brought this clock to Wenatchee to advertise his business. His business was located in the building that The Gilded Lilly was in. It has moved three times since then, and at one point was almost sold and moved out of Wenatchee.
We are on track to have the new finial back on top (back to the original look), new shatterproof glass (someone actually shot at it with a pellet gun and left a hole in the glass), new gears up above to compliment the restoration done 2 years ago down below, and for the first time in decades it will be illuminated again. We are so excited for this to all come together.
Thank you Josie for all your hard work, research, and love for this historic clock.
