A chaise lounge that came to me as a floor model, done in two fabrics that did not talk to each other. The yellow diamond was on the arm front, the cushion boxing, and even on the back.

My client wanted one fabric everywhere, and she picked a gorgeous earthy paisley woven in burgundy, terracotta, cream and brown.

The detail I am proudest of is the one we took away. That panel on the back came off, because nobody sees the back. I also used the same paisley for the decking under the cushion, which usually costs extra.

I love doing chaise lounges. I am not sure why, I just do.

This one was a floor model my client picked up, done in two fabrics that never made sense together. The yellow diamond was on the arm front and the cushion boxing, and for some reason they repeated that arm front on the back too. Nobody sees the back, so I told her to skip it.

She went with one fabric for the whole piece, an earthy paisley weave in burgundy, terracotta, cream and brown. I even used it on the deck under the cushion, which usually costs extra. I just charge for the yardage.

This antique swivel chair belonged to my client's great grandfather. It lives out in lake country, in an old boathouse the family turned into a summer home.

One arm was loose, so it got wood glue, clamps and a couple of days of patience. The seat was still held up by old leather straps, so I pulled those out and wove in jute webbing for stronger support, then hid it under the new fabric.

The hardest part was the channel back. Each channel stuffed by hand with thick cotton, through an opening narrower than my hand. The fabric moves like water, which felt just right for a lake house.

This antique swivel chair belonged to my client's great grandfather, and it now lives in an old boathouse out in lake country that the family turned into their summer home.

It came to me in its original stained wood with one loose arm. The arm got glued and clamped, and at the client's request the whole frame was painted a soft taupe. Under the seat, I swapped the old leather straps for woven jute webbing so it is stronger than ever.

The fabric she chose is a woven blend of taupe, blues and cream, with so much movement it looks like water. Every channel on the back was stuffed by hand with thick cotton. Perfect for a lake house.

This antique side chair is the third one I have done for this client, with a fourth coming soon in the same fabric.

She found the fabric online herself. I usually do not take internet fabric, and this one showed why. The stripes came in wavy. Getting every line to lay straight took a lot of patient adjusting.

My favorite part is the double welt cord. I cut the strips on the bias so they turn corners without puckering, and it makes the stripe look like a little rope around the edge.

She told me how well the stripes lined up. Then I told her the truth.

This antique side chair is the third one I have done for this client, with one more coming in a couple of weeks.

She found the fabric online herself, and I will be honest, I usually do not accept internet fabric because you never know what you are going to get. This stripe came in really wavy, and it took a lot of adjusting to get every line to lay straight. She even commented on how well the stripes lined up, and then I got to tell her how much of a struggle it was.

My favorite part is the double welt cord. I cut those strips on the bias, and the stripe turns into a little rope illusion around the edges.

This one came from a client with a sectional that has a separate chaise piece, the kind you can slide from one end of the sofa to the other. She wanted something more flexible.

So we reworked it. I cut the foam down to fit the top of the base, then rebuilt the cushion from a long chaise cushion into a clean square one. Same fabric, same piece, a whole new job.

Now it is a true ottoman she can move anywhere in the room. Nothing was broken here. Sometimes a piece just needs to fit the way you actually live.

This antique piano bench came to me in a cut chenille that had faded to a tired burgundy and gold. Good bones though. Those heavy wrought iron legs are not going anywhere.

It left in a woven Moroccan pattern, rust, purple, blue, pink and terracotta all in one fabric. On a small piece like this, one bold fabric does all the talking, and the black iron legs keep it grounded.

Take a look at the top down shot. Every band in that weave is a different little motif, and they all pull from the same warm palette.

This wing chair and ottoman arrived in a pink scalloped fabric that had faded out years ago.

It left in a deep indigo blue velvet, one of the nicest fabrics I have worked with. Heavy duty, wears beautifully, and there is a pattern woven right into it that you only notice when you are standing right over the chair.

The part nobody sees is the back, where every edge of velvet gets pulled around the frame before the outside back closes it all up. My favorite detail is the little cutout at the very bottom of the chair, the one that hides under the ottoman.

This mid century modern sectional came to me in four pieces, and the foam in the seat cushions had given up completely.

Every section was stripped down. All the cotton, horsehair and hay came out, then new barrier fabric, foam and dacron went on the inside backs. The seat needed major repairs before I could reupholster it.

The hardest part was the buttons. Three small buttons on every inside back, all lined up across the whole sectional, so I built the sections side by side to keep the spacing right.

The new fabric is a durable teal mid century weave, and seeing all four pieces together the way they will sit in her home made it all worth it.
