FAQ: Why does my hardwood feel uneven by mid-August?

Answer: Humidity. Wood absorbs moisture from the summer air and swells, and the boards press together hard enough that the edges can rise above the centers. That slight wave underfoot is called cupping. Climate control through the season and proper acclimation before installation keep the movement small enough that the floor stays flat.
