So honored to learn that our project at 1835 Baymiller is being presented with the best Adaptive Reuse award by the Cincinnati Preservation Association!
Each year, the Cincinnati Preservation Association's Preservation Awards recognize outstanding accomplishments in local preservation activities in the areas of preservation leadership, education, rehabilitation, adaptive reuse, and sustainability.
We're doing something different this year by sharing our honorees ahead of time! Please join us in congratulating the honorees as they are announced, and follow the link below to RSVP to the 2022 Annual Meeting and Preservation Awards that will take place at 4pm on Sun 4 Dec at ARCO in Price Hill! (ARCO Cincy is a 2020 CPA award winner in the Rehabilitation category.)
This year's Adaptive Reuse award honors 1835 Baymiller, an historic West End church that has been updated and adapted into a home for owner Abdiel Acevedo, plus a guest apartment. The 7,500-square foot structure was built in 1866 and has now been thoughtfully and thoroughly reimagined by architect Studiyo-b Architects and the property owner.
With local craftspeople and contractors, including Bry Remodeling, Brush Factory, Pure Granite And, and Donald Flooring, the team was able to turn the the first-floor meeting hall into a 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment, and the upstairs sanctuary with a preserved organ keyboard, 20-foot ceilings and massive windows into Acevedo's new home.
The resulting design is both inventive and sensitive to the original space. Distinct elements of the building's original function are apparent, such as the expansive former sanctuary with its bracketed ceiling beams and decorative corbels. Others have been artfully reimagined, such as the original narthex that has become a kitchen.
Behind the scenes, this project required patience and perseverance, requiring zoning relief and the resolution of several building code issues to make Acevedo's dream come true. We applaud the creativity, hard work and sweat equity that went into this truly inspiring transformation. (And special thanks to Chris Von Holle for this image.)
Stay tuned as we announce the other 2022 honorees and please plan to join us at ARCO on Sun 4 Dec: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2022-preservation-awards-and-annual-meeting-tickets-430317470137
