By now, I hope you’ve heard that after October 24th, I’ll be transitioning to selling fully online. No more markets.

And I’ve got lots of feelings about it.

I’m excited because this will allow me to shift my mindset with the business. Instead of the business running my schedule, I want to have more structure. More boundaries. Slow down. Be present with my family. Be there for every soccer game that my kids have.

I’m also really sad. I’ve been selling weekly at this market for 6 years. That’s about 126 Saturdays I’ve been spending with all of you. To me, it’s more than selling you candles. It’s about getting to know you. Catching up each summer to hear about your adventures. Your growing babies. Your good days and the hard ones too.

This business has allowed me to create a community with you all. And I’m so grateful for that.

I hope that with this change, we can continue to chat over social media, email, however we can.

Here’s a little peek into how we make our candles.

First, we prep the containers with the right size wick.

Then we add the wax to our melting pots. We use one pot for beeswax, and a second one for soy wax.

Once the wax is melted, we measure the right amount of beeswax and soy wax for the batch we’re making.

After the beeswax and soy wax is mixed in our pitcher, we wait until it cools to between 180* - 185* then we add the fragrance oil. (This is the science part of it. For whatever reason, this is the temperature that the fragrance oil best combines with the melted wax. Making sure we add it at the right temperature ensures our products have a strong scent throw when the candle is cool as well as when it’s burning.)

We stir for about 30 seconds to make sure it’s mixed well.

We measure our candles as we pour them so we can be consistent with our products.

Then we clean them up, trim the wicks, label, and package them.

At some point, I convinced myself that the only time I can light a candle is when my countertop is clean.

My countertop is never clean. If it is, it stays that way for maybe one night.

I’m sick of feeling like I can’t enjoy my candles just because my kitchen isn’t “clean enough.”

So now, I’m going to just light the candle.

Because I want to.

And maybe having a good smelling kitchen will make me feel like the kitchen isn’t actually that messy 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

When I started this business, I was using one, maybe two pitchers to make all of my products. I was using my small kitchen stovetop and cluttered my kitchen counters with supplies.

After each batch I made, I would spend over an hour cleaning everything so the kitchen was spotless. Like it never happened.

Today, I’m so grateful to have a dedicated space where I can leave my mess if I’m too tired to clean. Close the door and never think about it until I come back in here.

It doesn’t have to!

Here’s how to keep your jar clean:

Trim your wick when it starts to get build up. Your candle will last longer, smell better, and you’ll have a clean jar for refills!

When your wick has been burning for a while, it’ll start to get build up on the top. It’ll look like popcorn. All you have to do is trim off the popcorn top every once in a while.
