If decluttering never sticks… you need this 5-step method 👀

Most people don’t struggle with decluttering because they don’t want to do it. They struggle because they don’t have a simple, repeatable process to follow.

This is the exact method I use with clients to make decluttering feel manageable and actually get results.

My 5-step decluttering method that works every time:

1. Use 3 boxes: keep, donate, trash
2. Set a timer for 5, 10, or 15 minutes
3. Choose one small area to focus on (a drawer, shelf, or cabinet)
4. Make quick decisions—touch it once and place it in a box
5. Take action when the timer ends—throw trash away, move donations to your car, and put items back in place

This method keeps you from overthinking, getting stuck, or trying to do too much at once. It’s simple, realistic, and easy to repeat.

One thing to keep in mind 👇
Be careful with trying to sell everything.

You can add a “sell” box, but keep it small and only use it for your best items, otherwise it just becomes another pile to manage. When you keep it simple and take action right away, decluttering actually starts to stick.

As I’ve gotten older, my priorities have shifted.

I care less about having more and more about having things that are useful, high quality, and easy to maintain.

I’ve realized that everything we bring into our home takes up space, money, time, and energy—and I simply don’t want to manage as much anymore.

24 things I stopped buying once I turned 40 ⤵️

1. Sale items “just because”
2. Cheap clothing or low-quality products
3. Uncomfortable shoes
4. Random “going out” tops
5. Clothes that don’t really fit
6. Disposable razors
7. Inexpensive furniture
8. Cheap decor
9. Excess skincare products
10. Bulk items we don’t actually need
11. Plastic food storage containers
12. One-use items (I’d rather borrow them)
13. Air fresheners
14. Graphic t-shirts for every occasion
15. Dryer sheets
16. Costume jewelry
17. Toys bought out of pressure or guilt
18. Seasonal linens, pillows, and blankets
19. Large items without a clear home
20. Nail polish I won’t use
21. Souvenirs from every trip
22. Excess craft supplies
23. Knickknacks
24. Things I don’t truly love or use

This doesn’t mean life has to feel minimal or empty. It just means being more intentional with what comes into your home so it’s easier to maintain, easier to clean, and less overwhelming day to day.

Quality over quantity changes everything.

Let’s be honest… some things are really hard to let go of. 👀

Not because we use them; Not because we need them; But because we’ve convinced ourselves we should keep them.

14 things it feels illegal to throw away but you should:

1. Takeout condiment packets
2. Random cords with no matching device
3. Instruction manuals for things you don’t own
4. Old magazines
5. Expired spices
6. Socks without a match
7. Water bottles without lids
8. Broken kitchen gadgets
9. Dried-up pens and markers
10. Old receipts
11. Expired medications
12. Empty boxes you’ve been saving “just in case”
13. Duplicate household items
14. Clothing you haven’t worn in years

Homes feel easier to maintain when there’s less excess to manage and more room for the things you actually use and enjoy.

If you haven’t used it, needed it, or thought about it in years, it might be time to let it go.

You don’t have to wait until you’re completely overwhelmed to ask for help. 🤍

Most people who hire a professional organizer aren’t looking for perfection. They’re looking for simple systems, less stress, and a home that feels easier to maintain.

10 signs it’s time to hire a professional organizer:

1. You don’t know where to start
2. You’ve organized the same space multiple times
3. Your home feels overwhelming
4. You’re constantly looking for things
5. Your closets, pantry, or storage spaces are overflowing
6. You don’t have the time to tackle it yourself
7. Your current systems aren’t working anymore
8. You’re preparing for a move or life transition
9. Clutter is causing stress in your daily life
10. You want your home to feel more functional and peaceful 👏

Sometimes you don’t need more storage. Sometimes you just need a fresh set of eyes, a plan, and systems that support your real life.
