Kit+Syl Studio

Kit+Syl Studio I named my shop, Kit & Syl, after my first sources of inspiration, my compulsively stylish grandmothers, Kitty Rogers and Sylvia Fader.

Garden design and installation, maintenance, Spring and/or fall cleanup and mulching, Perennial and tree planting, Annuals- bed/container/window box design, floral design and delivery DM for your complimentary garden or event consultation Throughout most of my art career my media of choice has resulted in 2D pieces. You can see my past work at www.teddirogers.com. Last year I found that working in

a flat, hangable format, was no longer inspiring me to create. During a brief vacation from the art world I had time to reflect on what drew me to create. I soon realized that it does not matter what I make. What matters is that I am a maker. I crave working with my hands and imagination. I am sure I share the feelings of many fellow creatives on this site when I say, what makes me most happy is the act of making. Once my need to "make" became clear, I set out to find a new medium that would compliment my lifestyle (living in a New York City studio apartment with my boyfriend), that would not take up too much room in said studio apartment, and that I could potentially sell to a wider audience than the art world generally offers. This lead me to jewelry making, and signing up for my first class in cold connections. Unlike my previous relationship to art making this was a creative education that I entered into without expectation or agenda. It was nice to create something with the option to sell, but if I decided not to go that route I could always enjoy the pieces myself. I had no idea how quickly I would fall in love with the tactile process of sawing, torching, and drilling into metal. I have always been fascinated by the relationship between design and nature. Only now have I found the perfect medium with which to begin this exploration. My original designs are a marriage between my visual aesthetic and personal style. My goal is to create lightweight pieces that are comfortable to wear. I am inspired by the female form, and design toward complimenting the curves of the feminine figure. I often play with the contrast between strength and fragility. My designs are delicate, intricate and detailed, while my materials are mostly metal and are often roughly hammered.

Cover your ground! One important lesson I learned during my time farming is that bare ground wants to be covered, and if you don’t do it someone else will (cough, w**ds). There are many ways to cover your ground. What’s our favorite way? With plants! There are so many gorgeous annual and perennial ground covers that will provide your valuable soil with the assistance it needs to retain a consistent moisture level and temperature and make the most of its nutritional microbiome. In addition these living mulches aid in w**d pressure reduction and help to maintain strong soil structure.

Although I can’t wait to get back in the garden, winter offers the invaluable gift of time to learn, rest, grow and plan for the upcoming season. I know the perennials are busy doing the same! Looking forward to exchanging notes with them come spring 🥰.

Locally grown flowers back ! These mums and flowering kale grown by Understory Farm are super long lasting when kept in clean water and cool temperatures away from direct sunlight. If you purchase them with the upcoming holiday in mind please store accordingly. These will be the last fresh flowers I have for about a month until local winter blooms start popping. Thank you for another beautiful season! DM if you want to order a custom arrangement.
