ul Stitches are experienced knitters and crocheters, always willing to help with project questions and offer personal shopping assistance. The business was RELOCATED to its current Virginia home from the former Lenox, MA location which is now permanently closed (as of 10/2024). Visit us in the heart of historic colonial Williamsburg, surrounded by more delightful boutique stores, galleries, restaurants and historic sites. The store fronts onto parking lot P3 and is also adjacent to the Prince George City Parking Garage. Parking is free for the first 1/2 hour, or you can find free street parking.

It's almost time for World Wide Knit in Public Day! Mark your calendars and plan to Knit in public on June 13, 2026.

Join our team at Colorful Stitches Fine Yarn in celebration of World Wide Knit in Public Day, June 13 starting at 11:00 AM.

We will be meeting informally, using the public chairs, tables or benches in the center of the one-block-long "pedestrian walkway" down the center of Duke of Gloucester Street in Merchants Square in downtown Williamsburg, VA. Look for other knitters informally gathered, introduce yourself and join in.

You can check in first at Colorful Stitches Fine Yarn's store, 409 W. Duke of Gloucester Street (fronting on P3 parking lot), so we get to know you and continue sharing the excitement of knitting together. In the event of inclement weather, you are welcome to stay in-store at Colorful Stitches and knit at our work table.

Please bring your latest project. We can play Knitter's Trivia for small prizes and just enjoy each other's company. It is also a perfect time to pass along your skill to a newbie, so feel free to teach and demonstrate the fun of being a knitter and making wonderful fiber garments, accessories, toys or whatever your heart desires. If you want to, bring some samples of your work for show-n-tell. Remember to bring water to stay hydrated outdoors.

We will provide support in the way of several free patterns to share, extra needles to use, spare yarn to use during your stay, and the excitement of sharing our favorite hobby with the public.

This is a FREE event and reservations are not needed.

World Wide Knit in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes and was set for the second Saturday in June annually. In the past, this event has shown the general public that all people of all ages can enjoy knitting and can enliven the community in a singular shared activity.

Now on display in the main window for Colorful Stitches Fine Yarn's store in Merchant Square...the hand-knitted June Wedding.

From an ivory full-circle knitted lace floor-length skirt with beaded peplum top to the details of the bridal ensemble, this window features patterns that you can do yourself for the maker's wedding of your dreams. The groom sports a knitted bow tie (pattern includes a cummerbund) and knitted boutonniere, and the couple is arranged near the 5-tier fully knitted frosted wedding cake. To complete the window, accessories a bride or bridesmaid might need, including the bride's bouquet and the "something blue" in the knitted lace garter, all surround the couple. We've even remembered to knit the ring bearer's pillow.

For wedding guests, there are several knitted gift suggestions you could consider for an upcoming nuptial you'll attend: knitted table runner, place-mats set, knitted lace-edged powder room towels and face cloths.

Bonnie Burton, Colorful Stitches Fine Yarn's shop owner recently attended the H&H crafting convention and brought back beautiful kits and mini skeins/skeins added to our inventory in the shop.
