Just completed and delivered this beautiful bar made from an 1880 era French made piano. The bar has an epoxy resin work area which was the original key bed with piano keys and hammers embedded. The serving area at the top of the bar is also epoxy resin over curly maple live edge. The seating area in the back has a retractable bar and is also curly maple with Epoxy resin. It can be set in the up position for 2 to 3 people to sit around on bar stools or in can be placed in the down position in order to store it when it's not in use. There is lots of storage underneath. The brass handles on the side were on the original piano and really add a touch of class to the piece. The owner seemed very pleased with the finished product.

For those of you who remember the square grand I had the pleasure to recreate into an entry table, These are 2 of the legs from that 160 year old piano that I have repurposed into lamps for the owner of that piece. Too beautiful to waste.

I've just completed a piece for a nice couple in Virginia Beach. She has always wanted a bookcase made from an old piano to handle all of her music books (Which she has plenty of). They had been saving this 1897 6 1/2' grand piano until they could find someone who could repurpose it for them. I was lucky enough to be the one they allowed to create the transformation. When I received it, it was in pretty rough condition. The Burl Walnut finish was in poor condition and there were many cracks in the casing. I was concerned all the while I was working on it that it might be able to handle what I had to do. I think now, that it did fine. When it received the piano it didn't have the lid, which is what I typically use for shelves so I had to find an alternative. I found this beautiful Padauk wood with a natural reddish orange tone. Not knowing if would blend with the Burl, I took the chance and I think it totally complimented the walnut. Bottom line, they were very happy with the results and so was I.

This beautiful piano, unfortunately, has outlived its useful life as a piano and can no longer function as a piano. That's the bad news. The good news is that it is about to enter into a new and useful life as a desk. As always, I won't know what it will look like when it has been completed until it tells me what it wants to be. However, I do know that when one of my pieces starts out looking this beautiful, the end result is always amazing. It will be available for purchase when it's done so keep your eyes on it.

Yesterday I delivered my latest piece to it's owner, but looking a little different from when I first received it. This piano had sentimental value to the owner and she didn't want to see it be destroyed. The end result included as much of the piano as I could get back into it (As requested by the owner) and still be a useful piece of art. Everything used in repurposing this combo bookcase/desk came from the piano except the desk top, which is a beautiful piece of burl maple ambrosia wood, the backing which is a piece of 1/4" plywood and the lighting over the desk and behind the keys, which lights up the glass shelves with a rainbow of colors.
I first met Luna (the owner) at a Music and Arts show called Second Sunday in Colonial Williamsburg. Her daughter had visited a prior show and, knowing her mom had been looking for someone to repurpose her piano, then encouraged her to come to the next show. Well, over a year after we met, she contacted me to tell me that she was ready to have it done.
Based on her and her family's reaction when I delivered it yesterday, it was a great decision on her part. The finished product is pictured below. Thank you to Luna and her family for allowing me the opportunity to create this and give new life to an old friend.

The square grand has been delivered to it's rightful owner and has taken it's place back with the family. I am happy to report that this piece has been both a wonderful voyage and my biggest challenge to date.
So now, finally, I can make the great reveal. This is a sequence of pics almost in order. The project took approximately 6 months to complete.

Ok. So it's been a while since I have posted anything new, but it's not like I haven't been doing anything. To prove that, here are a few pics of my latest project. It belongs to a young lady who inherited it from her grandmother. According to her, whenever any one would visit here grandmother, they would be told not to touch the piano because "It was very valuable". When I received it, it was not serviceable.
