The joy of the Wonderful Wallaby!

Wallaby’s are flying off the needles! This knit is playful and quick! Ashley’s youngest has taken over this Wallaby which used rainbow stash yarn that Ashley’s oldest (now 17) picked out when she was 3 for a dress for her and her baby doll. In those 10 years, Ashley’s knitting has come a long way - look at the off center pocket on Sunny’s dress versus this much more skillfully executed Wallaby for Weath!

The body of this sweater was knit in Sweater yarn which is a soft, machine washable cotton wool blend. The fact that Weath is excited to wear it speaks volumes to its comfort because she will not tolerate anything itchy!

Pop into the studio to grab a Wallaby pattern (yes it’s a physical book!), yarn, or Wallaby advice! Normal hours this week, 11am-4pm and Wednesday until 7pm. Closed Saturday and open Sunday 10am-2pm!

No Sleeves Summer Knit-A-Long!

Warmer days are (finally) on the horizon in Williamstown, and we’ve got summer knits on the brain!

Inspired by all the vests Ash saw people wearing on the streets of Paris last spring, we’re officially entering our vest era—no sleeves, no “sleeve island,” just satisfying, speedy knits.

Join us for our No Sleeves Summer KAL, running Memorial Day (May 25) through June. Pick any sleeveless project (we’ve got inspo if you need it!), grab your yarn at gather, and cast on!

✨ Finish by the end of June to be entered to win a $100 gift card
✨ All participants get one of our besweatered bovine stickers
✨Use hashtag so we can see your progress!

Comment “I’m in!” or stop by the shop 🧶Folks from near and far are all encouraged to participate!

Also! Check out the samples of the Summer Solstice Box! So so fun! And we’ve got more boxes available! Pre-order now!

Spring is springing! 🌸🐑 And we’ve got shawl kits and gifts at the ready!

Mother’s Day is Sunday and we know you’re being inundated with messages about shopping for mom. Ashley in particular knows how these messages, while well intentioned, can sting given her “unmothered” status (otherwise known as The Dead Mom Club).

While this holiday can be tricky for many, for many reasons, Ashley leans into it being an opportunity to celebrate her own identity as a mom, and all those who offer care and comfort to people she loves.

When you visit us in the shop, you’ll see a row of handknit sweaters made by Ashley’s grandmother & great-grandmother, a physical legacy of some of the awesome mamas in Ashley’s history.

Handmade gifts feel like an especially fitting choice for Mother’s Day, as the hands of so many mothers have made the things that hold us, literally and figuratively. Each stitch carrying care, time, patience, and love forward into the next set of hands.

So whether you’re celebrating, grieving, honoring, or redefining what this day means to you… you’re welcome here. And we’d love if you’d consider supporting these two mamas (Ashley & Geraldine) by shopping for your gifts at gather. If a little yarn therapy (or a very intentional “gift” for yourself) is part of that, we fully support it.

We have special hours this week because it’s also the Sheep in the Shires yarn crawl!
Saturday: 10am-4pm

We did it. WE FREAKING DID IT!

YOU did it.

142 of you backed our in-house campaign for gather, raising over $50k to support increased visibility, access and reach of our community fiber arts studio.

In less than 36 hours time.

That is breathtakingly moving. More soon, but know the Birthday Sit & Stitch turned Campaign Success party was a festive way to cap off a whirlwind week of love and support.

Thank you.

Rainbows are cropping up all over the studio! 🌈 And while we get our first taste of warmer weather today, it is with great PRIDE that we announce the pre-sale of our Summer Solstice box, Bright & Boundless.

We knew we wanted our summer box to feature all LGBTQIA+ makers, artists & small businesses, since June is also Pride Month, and so we decided for our first summer solstice box, we’d fully lean into the Pride theme.

We want these boxes to provide not just wonderful fibers and patterns and locally curated gifts, but also opportunities for learning and growth. Each color of this hand-dyed yarn will be packaged with details about the color’s inclusion in the Pride flag, and the meaning and history behind these symbols.

The box includes options for either a knit or crochet version of Pride and Progress cowl. The yarn is being hand dyed by (thus the need for pre-orders!) We’ve curated special gifts from , , , .free.and.queer . Give all these awesome makers and small businesses a follow.

And be sure to claim your box by the end of April so you can celebrate the longest day of the year in full color! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

A portion of proceeds of every box sold will be donated to , our local pride organization.

The Shlanket deserves commemoration on the grid.

So much of what we love about knitting is the process and physical memory created by each piece. The hours of work are woven into the fabric of our lives and hold the memory of where and with whom we stitched and created.

Ashley started this project with a lovely cohort of knitters back in November. They began together right before the Thanksgiving holiday and have kept up a lively group chat about the process (and great hilarity about the enormity and time consuming nature of it. Will this be Ashley’s burial shroud one day? Sure could be given its size!)

Ashley stitched with dogs piled in her lap. On plane flights and long car rides. In pool bleachers between cheering for her children. Late at night while her husband snoozed and she stitched by “boob light” with her audio book as her companion. Amidst family conversations on Christmas Day by the tree (see the three row mistake that marks that very day and the happy distraction of family and celebration that caused the error. It is now her most beloved part of the piece, as the hand of the maker is what makes each hand knit project so unique and precious.)

Fittingly, she finished it en route home from a big weekend of watching her oldest daughter compete in a swim championship and got to wrap her in an elaborate shlanket hug of pride and comfort as ALL THE FEELS were processed.

While wearing it in the shop earlier this week, an older gentleman popped in. He’d driven up from south county (about a hour away) to check us out (word is getting out even though we’re still in soft launch mode as we build up inventory, but we love it! So many new friends and makers!) We chatted awhile and I asked if he had any particular project he was shopping for or anything he needed and he said, “No, just browsing for inspiration, and so I’d really like to make whatever you’re wearing because WOW! But with red, cuz that’s my color!” And so, another Cyanotype Shawl began!

All this is to say, the shlanket represents many beautiful, happy life moments and connection, and Ashley will carry those people and memories with her every time she wears it.
