Anyone who knows me knows I love hats—and I’ve collected quite an abundance of them! I’m honestly not particularly fond of winter, but having something like this beautiful wool Pendleton driving cap waiting to be worn makes those cold days a little easier to take.

And why hide our favorite things away in a closet? I’ve been having fun pulling out the pieces I love and using them around the house. Beautiful things are meant to be enjoyed—even when we’re not wearing them.

I’ve always thought even the simplest meal feels a little nicer when the table looks pretty. I loved the soft colors and beautiful pattern of these Maison d’Hermine placemats the minute I saw them, and paired with simple white dishes and an old linen napkin, they just make me smile. This sweet little pillow has been around since the 1940s, with hand embroidery, crocheted edging and even its original feather filling. As a lifelong sewer myself, I appreciate every stitch that was done by hand, and I love that more than 80 years later, someone else’s beautiful handiwork is still here making a home a little prettier.

The Cat Who Has Seen It All

With that impossibly long neck and those wonderful blue eyes, this vintage Holland Mold Siamese cat is a little piece of mid-century ceramic history. Holland Mold supplied molds to the booming home and studio ceramics movement of the 1950s–70s, when pieces like this were cast, decorated and finished by individual makers—and somehow, I think her slightly imperious expression has only improved with age.

Seven little custard cups, made in America by Taylor, Smith & Taylor as part of their Chateau Buffet collection, dating to the late 1950s and early 1960s. Dating to around the early 1990s, this vintage field coat has all the rugged details I love—heavy cotton, a genuine leather collar, and that wonderful flash of red from the removable quilted lining. Interestingly, its RN traces to CYRK, the company associated with producing Marlboro promotional merchandise, which helps explain the coat’s unmistakable tough, outdoorsman style.

I love finding an old piece and thinking, what else could this be? This vintage brass magazine holder filled with hydrangeas cut just outside my door suddenly has a whole new life—and those faded blues, greens and purples against the warm brass are pretty hard to resist.
