Art and sculpture are never an afterthought in our interiors, they are essential.

As vital as the furnishings themselves, these pieces bring depth, emotion, and a sense of authorship to a space. They offer the eye a moment to pause, to reflect, to be drawn in. A carefully placed sculpture or a striking work of art can anchor a room, create dialogue, and quietly define its character.

We consider art to be both the thread that weaves a room together and, at times, the exclamation point that gives it life.

It is this balance between form, function, and expression that transforms a beautiful space into something truly unforgettable.

When we’re renovating or designing a new home, there are so many beautiful layers to consider but lighting is the one I simply can’t imagine leaving out of the conversation.

To me, a room isn’t complete without fabulous lighting thoughtfully layered in. There’s always that one fixture…the chandelier that draws your eye, the sculptural pendant over a table, the soft glow of a perfectly placed sconce that quietly transforms everything around it.

Lighting is the punctuation at the end of a sentence. It’s the jewelry that pulls an outfit together. It’s that final touch that makes a space feel intentional, personal, and elevated. Without spectacular lighting, a room can absolutely be beautiful. But with it? The space feels alive. It feels warm. It feels finished.

When we design your home, lighting isn’t an afterthought, it’s part of how we create atmosphere, depth, and that unmistakable sense of luxury that feels both refined and welcoming and very “you”

I had the pleasure of attending The Art of the Move, a talk hosted by Doyle Auctioneers & Appraisers. It was an informative panel discussion on move management and the key factors to consider when relocating, renovating, downsizing, or handling estate matters. Experts from Fortress Storage and Bond & Des Voeux joined Doyle specialists to share how they partner with me and my clients during these important life transitions.

The images below feature highlights from Doyle’s upcoming auction, “Property of a Commonwealth Avenue Mansion: Estate of Anthony J. Sinskey,” currently on view at Doyle’s Boston location.

Built in the Chateauesque style, Boldt Castle was built by George Boldt, proprietor of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City and manager of the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel in Philadelphia, for his bride on an Island he shaped as a heart. Construction started in 1900 and finished (mostly) in 1904. He engaged the architectural firm G. W. & W. D. Hewitt and hundreds of workers to build a six-story castle as a present to his wife. In addition, four other masonry structures on the island are architecturally notable (a play house, power generator house). Equally distinctive is a huge yacht house on neighboring Wellesley Island He used craftsmen from Europe to do much of the work, as many did during this time.

The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority acquired Heart Island and the nearby yacht house in 1977, for one dollar, under the agreement that all revenues obtained from the castle operation would be applied towards restoration, so that the island would be preserved for the enjoyment of future generations.

During our time in London, we went to Sir John Soane’s home. It’s an incredible place with so many treasures collected over his lifetime, you will need several trips to take it all in. Rich in history and a perfect example of a true “collectors” home.

What kind of weekend person are you?
Up early ticking off the to-do list, or savoring a slow Sunday because the weekday grind doesn’t allow it?

Either way, it’s all about embracing the moment—and the beautiful weather.

Sunshine, spring blooms, and a cozy corner to soak it all in. There’s something so luxurious about imagining yourself in this bright, cheerful banquette—made for slow mornings and sunlight streaming in. It’s the simple, everyday moments that bring a deep sense of comfort and home from our designs.
