At a social event yesterday evening, I happened to sit next to a gentleman who said he worked for furniture company. I asked which one. Henkel Harris was the answer. I asked what his job was. And he replied “I owned it”. (The name “Henkel” on his name tag should have been my clue 😉)
He went on to tell me how his parents started the company, traveling to Europe to study how fine furniture was made. They brought back their knowledge and inspiration to Wi******er. 80 years later, Henkel Harris still makes some of the finest traditional pieces.
And while I like all design styles, my heart appreciates traditional pieces more and more. They honor history and what came before furniture was mass produced overseas and sold online. You can’t go wrong adding a piece to an eclectic design. Every room needs a little soul.

The mystery email from South Korea turned into a great design project for state department folks returning DC including space planning for a smaller layout; assessing stored furniture; color recommendations; window treatments; and locating art collected all over the world.

After a total gut, stealing 2’ from the living room and the master bedroom closet space, its all coming together nicely. Extra large floor tile are both dramatic and eliminate lots of grout lines. The vertical layout of the subway tile is the focal point in the mostly white shower. What a transformation from the before!

A little antiquing to find just the right finishing touches for my Pinehurst project! The search is on for visually interesting pieces with a little history and character. So much better than using mass produced, imported accessories.
