Dearest Friends of The Shop,

It is with unimaginably heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cheryl Evans. The Black Sheep Wool Shop was her happy place and to be surrounded by people and hobbies she loved brought so much light into her life. Thank you for gathering in the place she created and for bringing so much joy into her life. The shop was such a special place and thank you for making it so. Information about funeral services will be at the end of this email following a short bio about her.

If you have gotten to know mom we invite you to the luncheon to follow her funeral services. We know that our mom spent lots of time at the shop helping many of you, start, brainstorm, or finish a project. In honor of her life, we invite you to bring these projects or others of your favorites to the venue where we will host the luncheon and display them around the room.

The venue is a church building with carpeted walls and many tables, it would be appropriate to pin projects to the wall if able or display them on a table. If you bring a project please attach your name and phone number to the project in case it is left behind. We do not know how many will attend or how many projects will be brought so please be patient and gracious when you arrive as we find somewhere to display them. The Luncheon will begin at 2:00 pm and be open house style, if you would like to arrive early to help set up tables and chairs you are welcome to do so.

About Cheryl

Cheryl Evans was a brilliant designer, entrepreneur, avid gardener, and loving mother who touched the lives of many. Originally from California, she was a proud BYU graduate and a long-time resident of Fort Collins. Cheryl dedicated her life to serving others, whether through her church, her work, or her time spent nurturing her family and community. She held a master’s degree in education, started multiple businesses, and was always eager to help those around her grow and succeed.

After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Cheryl passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. In her final days, she expressed a heartfelt wish: that any time, money, or effort given in her honor be directed toward causes that create lasting, positive change. Cheryl believed deeply in organizations that empower individuals and foster hope for the future, such as cancer research foundations and educational charities like the Perpetual Education Fund.

In lieu of flowers or gifts at her funeral, we invite you to join us in honoring Cheryl’s legacy by supporting this fundraiser. The funds raised will be divided among cancer research and educational organizations, with updates provided as we finalize the recipients. Your generosity will help continue Cheryl’s vision of making the world a better place for generations to come. Thank you for your love, support, and for helping us celebrate a life so beautifully lived.

Cheryl is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gary Lee Evans; her sons, Bryce and Spencer; her father, William D. Koenig; her sisters, Kathryn Raker and Susan Hayes; her brother-in-law, Bob Raker; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Andrew “Drew” Evans; her mother, Elverta Ann (Spencer) Koenig; her brother, David W. Koenig; and her brother-in-law, Larry Hayes.

Funeral Services

We invite you to join us in honoring the life of Cheryl Evans.

A funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (600 E Swallow Road, Fort Collins) on April 25 at 11:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at Roselawn Cemetery.

A luncheon for family and close friends will follow at 2:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1320 W Harmony Road, Fort Collins).

In honor of Cheryl, we invite you to share a favorite memory or story by emailing [email protected]. These memories will be preserved for our family.

In lieu of flowers, and consistent with Cheryl’s wishes, we invite you to contribute toward causes that foster good in perpetuity. Contributions may be made here: gofundme.com/f/honoring-cheryl-evans-legacy/cl/o (https://www.gofundme.com/f/honoring-cheryl-evans-legacy/cl/o)

The funds raised will be divided among cancer research and educational organizations, with updates provided as we finalize the recipients. Your generosity will help continue Cheryl’s vision of making the world a better place for generations to come.

What's Next for the Shop

Everyone that came into the shop was a source of creative and artistic inspiration to our mom. Our mom expressed to us that it is her wish that the materials in her business would go to people who will use them to continue to create beautiful projects in the future. In coming weeks the shop will reopen to host a series of sales.

Thank you,

The Evans Famiy
