I am going to try something again this year and need as many people to support this as possible. I did a similar thing last year for a friend in need at this time and I feel it is so important to give back when you can—especially this time of year!
This last year and a half has been rough for so many people and families inside and outside the hospital walls. For those of you who do not know my personally, I am a full time nurse practitioner. I have a co worker and dear friend who is going through a really tough time and she needs our help.
Kayla Degarmo is a dedicated and hard working CNA at Trinity West where I work. She had a sweet baby girl, Kinsley Sue Ely, who is just over a month old.
On October 16th it was confirmed that she has a rare and severe case of Hirschsprung’s disease. For anyone who does not know, it is a condition of the large intestine that causes difficulty passing stool. It involves missing nerve cells in the bowel. She has already had two surgeries and has more ahead. Some days are good and some days are bad.
On November 23rd, it came to light that she needs another surgery to remove her ostomy because of complications. On November 26th, they did a routine ECHO and their findings were not as promising as they would have hoped. Kinsley has a coarctation of the aorta, which is a narrowing of the aortic blood vessel leading from the heart. Right now they are in the process of determining the safest way to fix it. This is scary but of course necessary.
In this time, it has been difficult for the Ely family to be apart. Kayla has been staying on her own at the Ronald McDonald house and every so often Jason and Kayla switch so that she can spend time with her boys. The boys have only been able to see Kinsley once since she was born. Of course this means a lot of hospital bills, lots of travel, living in two places, and potentially spending the holidays apart.
I want to give back to them. Please help me help her. I have a lot of loyal customers and friends. I’m going to do a R•A•F•F•L•E for FREE tumblers in their honor in my FB VIP GROUP!
