As mothers, we spend so much of their little years teaching them to do things on their own—to take the next step, try the new thing, be brave, and find their way.

And then somehow, with every bit of independence they gain, there’s a tiny part of us wishing we could pull them right back in close.

Motherhood is funny that way.

We raise them to eventually need us less, while quietly wishing time would slow down enough to let us keep them little just a bit longer.

So for now, I’ll treasure the seasons when they still follow close behind. When Mama is still the first place they look for comfort, reassurance, and home.

Because one day those little ducklings will find their own way.

But today, they’re still right here. 🤍🦆

There’s something about a mama duck and her babies that feels so much like motherhood.

From the surface, she looks calm—gently floating along with her babies tucked close behind her. But underneath the water, her feet are paddling like crazy… working constantly to keep moving, keep everyone together, and keep her babies safe.

And isn’t that motherhood?

We want our babies close. We want them to feel safe enough to simply follow along, never knowing just how hard we’re paddling beneath the surface.

The worrying. The planning. The protecting. The wondering if we’re doing enough or getting it right. The frantic little kicks no one else can see.

All while trying to make the water feel calm for them.

Maybe that’s one of the most beautiful parts of being their mama—they don’t have to know how hard we’re paddling. They just need to know we’re there.
