Surprised by a phone call today from a person that is looking to purchase a Lake House that I and my Firm designed some 20 years ago in Pennsylvania, by Twin Lakes, near Port Jervis, New York.
Surprised that it was built to begin with, and that it was not finished and that it's for sale.
Surprised even more that a Modernist Design changed to some sort of Post-Modern Italianate Design as it was pointed out by the potential buyer who directed me to look at the Realtor's website.
It's a typical example of modifications during construction, that if one designs an apple, the end result may be an orange as a best case scenario, or a patatoe.
Nevertheless the new buyer may bring back some of the original design ideas, like full sliding glass doors and glass panels, each bay is 16 ft wide, and open the house to the lake view as originally intended. The original roof design will probably remain a paper design. Nevertheless, the floor plans were maintained as originally designed, arches and ornaments added, various types of mouldings of different styles, may be easily removed, as well as the crimson paint on the walls, as such there's hope that modernism may be restored. I'm glad it was built and that a new owner recognizes the original design. My best wishes for its accomplishment.
