I spent the day yesterday working my way through boxes of archived papers at my studio. Forestheart Studio has been my project for about 40 years, making hard to find supplies available, teaching how to use them, sharing the call of the muses with other "makers". I invite everyone to try to stop by: you will need to make an appointment or check with me to see when I will be there. I will still be teaching for small groups, customizing to your needs; at my location or yours- and I'm sorting and tidying and preparing the building for sale. Inventory is being sold at steep discounts- the more you buy, the steeper the discount.
As an aside, I am encouraging myself and others to write about this time of life. I am gobsmacked that it feels so different than just a few years ago. Remember when we were rounded up and clued in about our pending adolescence? Well, I'd like to be more clued in about the elderhood that is being visited upon us. Anyone up for writing an essay about your experiences?Seriously- WTF??? Let's get together and work on our projects in one another's company rather than in isolation.
I have some concerning medical potentialities (don't we all, sooner or later?) which has sparked an idea that may turn out to be something larger than myself. I'm researching funeral practices, particularly cremation arrangements. There are cardboard coffins available, and I'm thinking about getting one well ahead of time and having a few gatherings with friends to decorate/individuate mine, knowing it will be reduced to ashes along with what remains of my body when my time comes. It's sortof empowering- and feels surprisingly fun to think about it. (yeah, I've always liked to feel in control...)
Mary (aka "Nzymie"- akin to enzymes, which, when present, give rise to things that do not otherwise unfold...)
