My 40 yr old Dawn Redwood tree (in Frederick) has produced an astounding crop of its charming cones: about the size of acorns, with unusual fourfold symmetry. Most of those which have fallen from the tree have already shed their seeds, but if you want the unusual, charming (and this year quite plentiful) cones -email me. Bring bag(s) or box(es). I spent the day yesterday working my way through boxes of archived papers at my studio. Forestheart Studio has been my project for about 40 years, making hard to find supplies available, teaching how to use them, sharing the call of the muses with other "makers". I invite everyone to try to stop by: you will need to make an appointment or check with me to see when I will be there. I will still be teaching for small groups, customizing to your needs; at my location or yours- and I'm sorting and tidying and preparing the building for sale. Inventory is being sold at steep discounts- the more you buy, the steeper the discount.
As an aside, I am encouraging myself and others to write about this time of life. I am gobsmacked that it feels so different than just a few years ago. Remember when we were rounded up and clued in about our pending adolescence? Well, I'd like to be more clued in about the elderhood that is being visited upon us. Anyone up for writing an essay about your experiences?Seriously- WTF??? Let's get together and work on our projects in one another's company rather than in isolation.
I have some concerning medical potentialities (don't we all, sooner or later?) which has sparked an idea that may turn out to be something larger than myself. I'm researching funeral practices, particularly cremation arrangements. There are cardboard coffins available, and I'm thinking about getting one well ahead of time and having a few gatherings with friends to decorate/individuate mine, knowing it will be reduced to ashes along with what remains of my body when my time comes. It's sortof empowering- and feels surprisingly fun to think about it. (yeah, I've always liked to feel in control...)

UPDATE: studio will be open 8 am Monday Sept 29 until early afternoon (or later if you call and tell me you need me to stay longer). CLOSED TUESDAY. Lots of spinning fiber and coned yarns (perle cotton and Harrisville wools), BEADS, books, and assorted surprises surfacing as 40 years of inventory is unearthed- call with questions or to make appointments; bring some friends! 301-663-3855 301-845-4447.

Studio open today about 10:30 til 2 pm (or call to let me know you need another time slot 301-845-4447; after hours 301-663-3855). Resellers please bring your tax exempt certificates. We've been tidying up and finding all sorts of things, not just beads and yarns, books and magazines and fixtures + loads of other quirky and delightful things. Accepting scheduled appointments for next week. Come and visit when you can; the building will be up for sale in a few weeks +/-.

I've been posting notices that Forestheart Studio is preparing to close- I hope that the fiber community does not mind that I posted on other fiber shop and event sites. We have through the years always sent people to one another; we are all in this together. All inventory is steeply discounted so that the building can be listed for sale. Coned yarns, beads, and oodles of other goodies collected over the many years - it all needs to be cleared out, within the next few weeks.
